Overview

Goro Daimon is a fictional martial artist from SNK's fighting game series, The King of Fighters. A former Olympic gold medalist in judo, he frequently forms the Japan Team alongside Kyo Kusanagi and Benimaru Nikaido to compete in the KOF tournaments. After stepping away from professional judo to pursue unconstrained strength, he developed a unique fighting style that blends martial throwing techniques with self-taught strikes. Known by the moniker "The Towering Mountain of Storms," he dominates opponents with his towering height and immense physical power.

Appearance

Standing at a massive 204 cm, Daimon is a highly muscular male with short hair, thick eyebrows, and facial hair. He fights topless, exposing his broad chest and abdominal muscles, while wearing judo pants secured by a black belt. He dons wristbands on both arms and wears a headband or tenugui displaying a Hinomaru emblem around his forehead. Distinctively, he goes barefoot while wearing wooden geta sandals into battle.

Personality

Daimon is a mild-mannered, quiet, and stoic individual who relies on dedicated hard work. During fights, he refrains from unnecessary chatter and focuses entirely on battle shouts. He possesses a gentle and caring nature, often acting as a mediator for his hot-headed allies while maintaining deep respect for fellow martial artists and seniors. Though self-aware of his old-fashioned ways, his commitment to rigorous training sometimes inadvertently rubs off on those around him.

Abilities

Daimon utilizes a combat style combining judo with self-taught striking arts. He excels at high-damage throw techniques and remarkably long-reaching normal attacks, seamlessly chaining physical strikes into powerful command grabs. His repertoire includes the ground-pounding "Jiraishin," which creates shockwaves across the floor, as well as devastating throws like "Tenchi Gaeshi" and "Jigoku Gokuraku Otoshi." He can also utilize the "Chou Ukemi" roll for quick repositioning and defensive evasion.

Background

Born as the fifth son in a large family of eight siblings, Daimon achieved global fame by winning an Olympic gold medal in judo. Feeling constrained by sporting regulations, he retired to train in isolated mountains, perfecting a style incorporating strikes. After taking third place in the All-Japan Martial Arts Tournament—losing to Kyo Kusanagi in the semifinals—he joined forces with Kyo and Benimaru. He eventually returned to the judo world as a coach and competitor, while also building a family with his wife and young son, Toragorou.

Relationships

He shares a strong bond of mutual trust with Kyo Kusanagi and Benimaru Nikaido, serving as the steady mediator during their frequent squabbles. He acts as a supportive mentor to Shingo Yabuki, taking care of him during turmoil. Daimon holds great respect for veteran martial artists like Takuma Sakazaki, whom he addresses as master. On a personal level, he is a dedicated family man devoted to his wife and his infant son, Toragorou.

Trivia

Outside of combat, Daimon enjoys visiting Japanese gardens and appreciating nature. His distinct geta clacking sound during dashes and the wide snatch range of his throws have made him legendary among fighting game fans. Beyond the mainline fighting games, he has appeared in spin-off titles, tower defense games, background cameos, and special event outfits in various media.
