Overview

Goenitz is a major antagonist introduced in THE KING OF FIGHTERS '96. Known as "Goenitz of the Wildly-Blowing Wind," he serves as one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Orochi. Dedicated entirely to executing the will of his master, he adopts the dignified guise of a pastor. Although he maintains a polite demeanor and soft-spoken speech, he possesses a ruthless nature, willing to eliminate anyone who stands in the way of his objective.

Appearance

Goenitz is a tall, muscular man standing 193 cm with blue eyes, facial hair, and short multicolored black-and-blonde hair. He sports a single earring. His outfit resembles that of a priest, featuring a blue shirt paired with a brown belt and a black capelet draped over his shoulders.

Personality

Goenitz presents himself with exceptional politeness and calm refinement, speaking respectfully even to his foes. However, beneath this courteous exterior lies a callous and fanatic devotion to Orochi. He evaluates everything purely in terms of its utility toward reviving his lord, showing complete detachment and cold cruelty when inflicting destruction or death.

Abilities

Goenitz wields elemental command over wind, enabling him to generate destructive gusts and tornadoes at will. His martial style incorporates long-range attacks such as summoning focused pillars of wind under his opponents and using razor-sharp air currents to slice through targets.

Background

To weaken the seal on Orochi, Goenitz murdered Maki Kagura, the seal's guardian. He also targeted Rugal Bernstein, taking his right eye while granting him a portion of Orochi's power to test his compatibility, assigning Mature and Vice to keep watch over him. When the Hakkeshu member Gaidel refused to participate in their mission, Goenitz triggered the Riot of the Blood in Gaidel's daughter, Leona Heidern, causing her to destroy her own village. He later intervened directly in the 1995–1996 tournament cycle to crush the descendants of the Three Sacred Treasures.

Relationships

Goenitz serves Orochi as his supreme lord. He maintains authority over fellow Orochi followers Mature and Vice, whom he assigned to monitor Rugal Bernstein after taking Rugal's right eye in battle. He is also responsible for killing Maki Kagura to break the ancient spell binding his master.

Trivia

Goenitz's polite mid-battle line uttered during his wind attacks, famously asking if the targeted spot is the correct location, became an iconic trademark associated with his punishing boss encounter.
