Overview
Yabuki Shingo is a fighter from the THE KING OF FIGHTERS series, first introduced in THE KING OF FIGHTERS '97. A high school student deeply inspired by Kusanagi Kyo, he becomes Kyo's self-proclaimed apprentice and enters the tournaments using a unique style based on Kusanagi ancient martial arts.
Appearance
Shingo is a muscular young man with short brown hair and brown eyes. He wears a headband along with an open school uniform jacket. On his hands, he equips a pair of blue fingerless gloves featuring a sun crest, which were gifted to him by Kusanagi Kyo.
Personality
Shingo is earnest, enthusiastic, and polite, always speaking respectfully to others. Though easily carried away by excitement, he possesses immense mental fortitude and determination, willing to put his life on the line to protect his allies despite his intense fear of intimidating figures like Iori Yagami.
Abilities
Shingo fights using a self-taught variation of Kusanagi ancient martial arts. Lacking the Kusanagi bloodline, he cannot generate flames and executes unrefined versions of traditional moves. However, he compensates with exceptional physical conditioning, heavy punches, custom strikes, and a knack for landing powerful critical hits.
Background
After watching Kusanagi Kyo fight on television, Shingo discovered they attended the same high school and pleaded to become his student. Kyo agreed on the condition that Shingo run daily errands for him. Over time, Shingo also received martial arts instruction from Kyo's father, Saisyu Kusanagi, gradually maturing into a capable martial artist.
Relationships
Shingo views Kusanagi Kyo as his revered master and also trains under Kyo's father, Saisyu Kusanagi. He forms strong bonds with allies like Benimaru Nikaido and Goro Daimon, and was entrusted by Chizuru Kagura to help unite Kyo and Iori Yagami on the same team.
Trivia
During the early concept phase of his design, he was given the tentative placeholder name Suzuki Shingo. He is also recognized for checking his student handbook mid-battle to review his techniques.
