Overview

Derieri is a prominent character in Nakaba Suzuki's series The Seven Deadly Sins. As a high-ranking demon warrior, she serves as a member of the Ten Commandments, an elite force directly under the Demon King, holding the title of the Commandment of Purity. Unsealed after three millennia alongside her comrades, she initially seeks to conquer Britannia. Characterized by her extremely terse manner of speaking and devastating physical prowess, she navigates the conflicts of the Holy War while undergoing a profound personal transformation regarding her hostility toward her enemies.

Appearance

Derieri is depicted with orange hair and distinctively sharp, cat-like eyes. Rather than wearing standard garments, her highly revealing form is scantily covered by patches of dark demonic markings across her body. Following historical battles in which she suffered severe injuries, including the loss of her left arm, the missing limb is shrouded and concealed by her dark power.

Personality

Derieri maintains an intensely taciturn demeanor, habitually truncating her speech to state only final conclusions while skipping all context, requiring her companion Monspeet to translate her true meaning to others. Driven by the traumatic loss of her sister at the hands of the Goddess Clan, she long harbored a ferocious hatred toward them. Beneath her aggressive combat spirit, however, lies an introspective nature. Experiencing quiet human hospitality causes her to grow weary of endless warfare, ultimately softening her fierce outlook and prompting her to re-evaluate her reasons for fighting.

Abilities

Derieri possesses the magic power known as Combo Star, a purely assault-oriented ability that accumulates an extra 200,000 pounds of force onto every successive physical blow, provided her attack sequence remains uninterrupted; only Meliodas and Tarmiel have ever endured over fifty hits from this combination. She also bears the Commandment of Purity granted by the Demon King, which afflicts anyone engaging in impure conduct with illness. Furthermore, by sacrificing six of her hearts, she can unleash a forbidden transformation to become an Indura.

Background

Three thousand years ago during the Holy War, Derieri lost her sister to a cruel scheme by the Archangel Ludociel, driving her to sacrifice her hearts to become an Indura before being saved by Elizabeth. Sealed away after the war, she was later resurrected in the present day by Fraudrin. She renewed her campaign against the Goddesses, slaying Nerobasta to avenge her sister. However, after being blasted away in battle against Meliodas, she was taken in by a human woman in a peaceful village. Living quietly alongside Monspeet, she questioned her continued participation in the war. When Estarossa attacked to steal her Commandment and claimed Monspeet's life, a grief-stricken Derieri joined Elizabeth on the battlefield, ultimately falling in battle while receiving a spell from Mael that ensures her eventual reincarnation with her memories intact.

Relationships

Monspeet was Derieri's constant partner and interpreter, silently protecting her throughout their long history; his death to protect her left her with deep regret for never having expressed her appreciation. Elizabeth saved Derieri from her beastly Indura form in antiquity and later provided emotional counsel that inspired her to choose her own path. Ludociel and Nerobasta were the targets of her intense vengeance due to the murder of her sister. She viewed Meliodas as a formidable opponent, though she was puzzled when he spared her life, while Estarossa became the cause of her final tragedy by taking Monspeet away.

Trivia

Certain details regarding Derieri's powers, such as the exact mechanism and curse conditions of her Commandment of Purity, were formally clarified in official series guidebooks rather than within the main narrative itself. Additionally, her signature habit of speaking in extremely abbreviated conclusions was established after the traumatizing battles three thousand years ago, during which she lost her sister and sustained permanent physical injuries.
