Overview

Gowther is a main character in the manga series The Seven Deadly Sins and a member of the titular order of knights, bearing the title of the Goat's Sin of Lust with a goat symbol etched on his right chest. Initially depicted in wanted posters as a massive giant in armor, his true form is an incredibly visually vibrant, dynamic, and neutral-looking young boy wearing glasses. In reality, he is a magical doll created by the demon wizard Gowther of the Ten Commandments. Lacking genuine feelings at first, he observes humans with cold logic in a continuous quest to understand the emotional heart.

Appearance

Gowther has medium-length magenta or red hair, broad yellow eyes, long eyelashes, shiny lips, and a slender frame while wearing glasses. He sports an ensemble consisting of a collarbone-revealing dress over tight black pants, and later shifts to a noble-style outfit. He possesses the ability to alter his hair length, hair color, skin tone, and voice at will, which he used under the persona Armand, though his height of 175 cm remains static. He bears a goat tattoo on the right side of his chest. At times, he operates within a huge suit of armor designed to suppress his magical power.

Personality

Gowther is fundamentally emotionless, matter-of-fact, and deeply analytical. He lacks a natural grasp of social atmosphere or ethical tact, often stating blunt or uncomfortable truths with complete indifference. Because he views himself as heartless, he is fond of reading stories about human emotion, sometimes taking his immersion so far that he adopts the persona of a book's character. He avoids unnecessary combat whenever possible and frequently adjusts his glasses.

Abilities

He possesses the magic ability Invasion, allowing him to manipulate minds and memories. His moves include Searchlight for reading thoughts, Rewrite Light for altering memories, Nightmare Terror for trapping victims in bad dreams, Broadcast for instantly transmitting mental information, and Blackout or Blackout Arrow to suspend cognitive functions. He can also hijack bodies or objects with Jack and Hijack, erase recent memories with Lost World, cut off nervous systems with Breaker Off, and neutralize magic with Kill Switch. In addition to high physical durability, shape-shifting, and voice mimicry, he uses the Sacred Treasure Twin Bow Herritt embedded in his arms to cast wide-area illusions via Kaleidoscope.

Background

Created by the demon Gowther of the Ten Commandments in the likeness of his deceased lover, the doll was rendered independent with a magical heart before falling asleep underground in Liones. Decades later, he awoke and befriended Princess Nadja. When she died of illness, his attempts to save her were misunderstood as a violent crime, leaving him framed for the Sin of Lust and driving him to erase his own memories and emotions. He eventually joined the Seven Deadly Sins, later living in Ordan Village under a disguised persona before reuniting with his comrades.

Relationships

Gowther was crafted by his creator, the demon sorcerer Gowther. He shared a loving bond with Princess Nadja of Liones, whose passing shaped his fate. In Ordan Village, he served young Pellyodd while disguised as Armand. Within the Seven Deadly Sins, he acts alongside Meliodas and Merlin, though his lack of emotional understanding previously led him to manipulate the memories of Guila and Diane. The demon Fraudrin shows respect toward his origins, and he also crosses paths with Slader of the Dawn Roar.

Trivia

Because his official wanted poster illustrated his massive suit of armor rather than his personal face, very few Holy Knights knew his true form when he joined the kingdom's battle ranks. Although modeled visually after his creator's female lover, he was deliberately constructed as a male doll to prevent any romantic attraction from arising during his creation.
