Agil

Overview

A supporting character in Sword Art Online, Agil—whose real name is Andrew Gilbert Mills—is an African-American survivor of the death game who speaks fluent Japanese. In the real world, he runs a coffee shop and bar named the Dicey Cafe in Okachimachi, which frequently serves as an offline meeting spot for Kazuto Kirigaya and his friends. Within virtual realities, he acts both as a reliable merchant and a front-line heavy warrior wielding a massive battle axe.

Appearance

Agil is a tall, muscular dark-skinned man with a bald head and facial hair. His avatar and real-life visual presence share a distinct, imposing build. In combat gear, he wears armors such as a breastplate combined with leather components, paired with fingerless gloves or black gloves and detached sleeves that leave his shoulders exposed.

Personality

Though he often puts on the front of a calculating merchant driven by profit, Agil is profoundly compassionate and generous. He secretly spent most of his earnings in SAO to help nurture mid-tier players so they could survive and catch up to the front lines. Friendly, grounded, and deeply devoted to his wife, he acts as a stabilizing big-brother figure for the younger cast.

Abilities

Agil is a highly capable vanguard combatant whose primary weapon is a powerful two-handed battle axe, such as Ground Gorge. Alongside his high proficiency in two-handed axe combat, martial arts, weapon defense, and leather armor, he possesses specialized merchant skills including item and equipment appraisal, buying and selling negotiation, and weight limit expansion. In ALfheim Online, he plays as a Gnome specializing in close-quarters heavy combat.

Background

After getting trapped in the SAO launch incident, Agil established an item shop in Algade on the 50th floor of Aincrad. He survived the death game while helping clear upper floors through the final battle on the 75th floor. Upon returning to reality, he resumed running his cafe—which his wife had faithfully maintained in his absence—and subsequently joined his friends in ALfheim Online and subsequent VRMMO worlds.

Relationships

He shares a long-standing friendship and high mutual trust with Kazuto Kirigaya (Kirito), serving as his go-to merchant and refuge provider. He is happily married to his wife, with whom he originally connected through online gaming and now co-manages the Dicey Cafe. He also maintains close ties with Asuna, Klein, and the rest of Kirito's core circle of companions.

Trivia

To balance business and game time, Agil manages the daytime coffee shop hours while his wife handles the evening bar shifts. Across various Sword Art Online video game adaptations, he consistently fulfills the narrative role of securing a home base for Kirito's party at the start of each adventure.
