Overview
Atomic Samurai, whose real name is Kamikaze, is an S-Class Rank 4 professional hero in the manga series One-Punch Man. Associated with the Council of Swordmasters as well as the Hero Association, he is a top-tier warrior who fights in the tradition of a classic Japanese samurai. Self-described as a hard-boiled hero with a compassionate heart, he stands among the most powerful combatants in the organization.
Appearance
Atomic Samurai is a 37-year-old man with black eyes and black hair styled into a high topknot, accompanied by a goatee. He dresses in traditional Japanese samurai attire topped with a hooded cape, which features an atom symbol on its back, and carries swords at his hip. He is frequently seen holding a toothpick in his mouth.
Personality
Driven by intense pride in his formidable skills, Atomic Samurai refuses to acknowledge anyone he does not deem a true warrior of strong body, heart, and mind. When first encountering Saitama, he dismissed him until the latter could climb to the S-Class rank. Despite his arrogant demeanor and harsh evaluation of others, he possesses a deeply caring side toward his pupils, taking great pride in their growth. He also takes offense at being called an old man.
Abilities
He is a master swordsman capable of striking at speeds far exceeding sound. His primary technique, the Atomic Slash, delivers over a hundred cuts per second to reduce targets to microscopic pieces. His arsenal also includes the Atomic Concentrated Slash for focused strikes, the Atomic Straight Line Slash, and the Airblade, which launches pressurized shockwaves over distances. Upon obtaining the legendary Sun Blade, he gained the power to sever the heavily reinforced arm of Golden Sperm. However, he relies exclusively on his weapons and struggles against opponents with rapid regeneration or splitting capabilities.
Background
Hailing from the Council of Swordmasters, he rose to become the Rank 4 S-Class hero in the Hero Association, battling major threats such as Melzargard and the forces of the Monster Association. Following the severe conflicts with the monsters, he sought out King in search of a rival after Silverfang's retirement. Moved by what he perceived as supreme mastery, he acknowledged his own shortcomings and embarked on a journey of intense self-improvement alongside his pupils, searching for the Moon Blade.
Relationships
He mentors three high-ranking A-Class heroes—Iaian, Okamaitachi, and Bushidrill—who hold him in deep respect, while he fiercely protects and supports their advancement. He shares a long-standing friendship and mutual recognition with Silverfang. Initially dismissive of Saitama due to his lower rank, his stance is defined by his strict standard for strength. He holds immense reverence for King, whose supposed martial perfection inspired him to pursue further training.
Trivia
He is capable of slicing weak monsters to pieces using nothing more than the toothpick kept in his mouth. One of his three top disciples, Bushidrill, happens to be the exact same age as him at 37 years old. During the battles against the Monster Association, he notably faced a series of unfavorable matchups against enemies immune to conventional cutting attacks.
