Overview
Saitama is the main protagonist of the series One-Punch Man. Registered with the Hero Association under the official title of Caped Baldy, he began as an unemployed job hunter before undergoing an intense physical regimen that granted him unrivaled power. Capable of defeating virtually any opponent with a single blow, he suffers from profound boredom and a lack of fulfillment in battle, constantly searching for a foe who can challenge him. Describing himself as someone who is a hero for fun, he resides in the abandoned sector of Z-City.
Appearance
Saitama is a completely bald man with black eyes and a muscular build, having lost all of his original black hair through rigorous training. His signature hero outfit consists of a yellow body suit featuring a zipper on the chest, paired with red gloves and a white cape, though he previously fought in a blue tracksuit. His casual attire includes hoodies and T-shirts featuring printed graphics such as OPPAI. While typically depicted with a simplified, vacant facial expression, his features transform into a sharp, well-defined countenance when he becomes serious.
Personality
Despite his unimaginable power, Saitama maintains an unpretentious and ordinary mindset. He prioritizes mundane everyday matters, such as grocery store bargain sales and trash disposal schedules, over grand disasters. While he rarely seeks fame or validation and often lets others take credit to preserve their dignity, he occasionally displays minor flaws, such as getting petty over losing video games or trying to avoid paying for food. He is particularly sensitive about his baldness. Though he views being a hero as a personal passion rather than a profession, he holds a deep-seated code of justice regarding what it truly means to protect others.
Abilities
Saitama possesses unlimited physical strength, invulnerable durability, and reflexes that far surpass the speed of sound. His physical output grows exponentially during intense emotional surges. Among his demonstrated feats are jumping from the Moon to Earth, displacing Jupiter's outer gas layers with a sneeze, and utilizing internal gas release for propulsion in space. His standard combat moves include the Normal Punch and Consecutive Normal Punches. When exerting greater force, he utilizes his Serious Series, which encompasses techniques such as the Serious Punch, Serious Sideways Hops, Serious Table Flip, and Serious Headbutt. He also used the time-reversing Zero Punch.
Background
Three years prior to the start of the story, Saitama was a frustrated job seeker who saved a child with a split chin from the monster Crablante. Reawakening his childhood passion to become a hero, he initiated a daily regimen consisting of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10-kilometer run. Maintaining this routine relentlessly for three consecutive years caused him to break his physical limiter and attain unmatched strength at the cost of his hair. After learning about the Hero Association from his self-appointed disciple Genos, Saitama took the entry exam and officially became a registered hero.
Relationships
Genos is Saitama's live-in disciple who admires his strength, while Saitama acts as a casual mentor. King, an S-Class hero, is one of Saitama's closest friends; the two frequently gather to play video games, where King consistently defeats him. Speed-o'-Sound Sonic views Saitama as his rival, though Saitama finds his persistence annoying. He respects Mumen Rider for his unwavering sense of justice, unaware they attended the same middle school. Other heroes who recognize Saitama's genuine, unbelievable strength include Silver Fang, Hellish Fubuki, and Flashy Flash.
Trivia
His yellow hero suit was a gift from a local tailor he was friendly with before losing his hair. Despite his superhuman attributes, he failed a spicy mega-udon eating challenge, though he frequently dines with Genos at cheap conveyor belt sushi restaurants. Following the battle against the Monster Association, he permitted the severely weakened monsters Overgrown Pochi and Black Sperm to stay near his residence, showing leniency toward entities that no longer pose a threat to humanity.
