Lin Lin

Overview

Lin Lin, also known as Ring-Ring, is a female martial artist introduced during the Super Fight Tournament arc of the One-Punch Man manga remake. Distinguished by her traditional Chinese attire and hair bells, she entered the 22nd Super Fight tournament as its sole female contestant after finding no remaining rivals in women's combat sports. She is a practitioner of the martial art known as the Palm Bell Fist and conceals a love for battle behind a quiet demeanor.

Appearance

Lin Lin is a young woman with black hair styled into thin, long braids looped into rings on both sides of her head, complemented by four bells positioned on her hair and ears. She wears a striking red China dress (qipao). While her eyes are rendered grey in the manga illustration, they appear red in the animated adaptation.

Personality

Though generally taciturn and composed, Lin Lin is fundamentally a battle-loving martial artist who possesses strong principles and rejects coercive temptations. Despite her stoic front, she harbors a delicate side where emotional distress instantly causes her hair bells to ring, which in turn causes her further fluster. She is capable of feeling intense fear toward terrifying adversaries, yet remains easily inspired by the courage of others to stand her ground.

Abilities

Lin Lin is a practitioner of Palm Bell Fist (Shourinken), a martial arts discipline centered on maintaining complete inner tranquility so that the bells worn on the body remain silent even during combat. In addition to unarmed hand-to-hand fighting, her skill set includes the proficiency to handle heavy polearms such as the naginata and the Chinese halberd.

Background

Seeking greater challenges after running out of formidable opponents in women's martial arts, Lin Lin entered the 22nd Super Fight. She was knocked out in the first round by A-Class hero Lightning Max. When the tournament venue was breached by the monster Gouketsu, she refused to consume monster cells out of pride, but was beaten by his minion birds and hospitalized. Though traumatized by the encounter, she was motivated by wounded heroes heading into action and attempted to arm herself to rejoin the battle.

Relationships

In the tournament, Lin Lin faced A-Class hero Lightning Max in her opening match and was defeated. Later at the hospital, as she prepared to join the fray alongside departing heroes, she was stopped by fellow competitor Suiryu, who pointed out that her ringing bells betrayed her inner turmoil.

Trivia

The name of her martial arts style, Palm Bell Fist (Shourinken), is a play on the real-world Shaolin Kung Fu (Shourinken in Japanese). She enjoyed substantial popularity among the tournament spectators, to the point where her male opponent received loud boos from the crowd simply for landing a decisive knockout against her.
