Overview

Genos is a major character in One-Punch Man. A 19-year-old high-ranking hero, he holds the S-Class Rank 14 position (initially Rank 17) under the hero alias "Demon Cyborg." Driven by a tragic past in which a rampaging cyborg destroyed his hometown and family when he was fifteen, he underwent cybernetic modification to pursue vengeance. After witnessing Saitama's absolute strength, Genos became his devoted disciple, taking up residence in Saitama's apartment while performing housework and seeking greater power through battles against severe threats.

Appearance

Genos has spiky blonde hair and distinctive eyes featuring black sclera and yellow irises. Recognized within the series for his exceptionally handsome face, he wears earrings and pants. Below his neck, his body consists of inorganic mechanical armor constructed by Dr. Kuseno. Initially possessing short hair, he temporarily adopted longer hair made from newly developed heat- and impact-resistant reinforced fibers before reverting back to a short hairstyle after subsequent body modifications.

Personality

Genos possesses a cool, deeply serious demeanor driven by a potent sense of justice. Beneath his composed exterior lies a burning hatred toward the mad cyborg that ruined his past, causing him to occasionally feel restless about his own lack of strength. While naturally blunt toward superiors, he shows profound respect and loyalty to Saitama and Dr. Kuseno. He meticulously notes Saitama's words in a journal and turns intensely hostile toward anyone who discredits his master. Despite his stoic nature, he can be surprisingly easygoing, readily altering his plans to align with Saitama's preferences.

Abilities

Modified into a full-body cyborg by Dr. Kuseno, Genos possesses formidable combat performance alongside sensory systems that detect high energy, rapid approaches, and biological responses. As long as his organic brain remains intact, he survives, utilizing a system that converts food into biofuel while retaining his sense of taste. He also incorporates household conveniences such as cooking tool extensions and hot-air dish drying. His signature technique is the Incineration Cannon, which discharges intense heat rays from his palms, alongside the rapid-fire Machine Gun Blow. His arsenal further features magnetic manipulation, freezing attacks, electrical strikes, rocket-propelled kicks, low-altitude flight, and a built-in self-destruct mechanism within his power core.

Background

At age fifteen, Genos lost his family and home to a rampaging mad cyborg, sustaining life-threatening injuries. He was rescued by Dr. Kuseno, a scientist hunting the perpetrator, and agreed to undergo cybernetic conversion to seek revenge and combat evil. Four years later, while facing destruction against Mosquito Girl, he was saved by Saitama's unmatched power. Astounded by Saitama's strength, Genos insisted on becoming his disciple. Upon taking the Hero Association entrance exam, he achieved a perfect score and was directly placed into S-Class, subsequently moving into Saitama's home while continuing his pursuit of revenge and hero duties.

Relationships

Saitama is Genos's honored master and savior. Holding absolute trust in Saitama's strength and heroic philosophy, Genos lives with him, manages all household chores, and meticulously records his master's sayings in a notebook while fiercely defending his honor. Dr. Kuseno is the scientist who saved Genos's life and transformed him into a cyborg; Genos treats him with profound gratitude and respect as Kuseno continuously repairs and upgrades his cybernetic body.

Trivia

According to original author ONE, Genos has distinct character traits in that he does not sweat and never smiles during combat. Illustrator Yusuke Murata noted that when drawing Genos for the manga remake, he intentionally attempts to capture the sense of emptiness reflected in Genos's eyes from ONE's original artwork. Additionally, in official manga popularity polls, Genos achieved 3rd place in the first and third polls, while placing 9th in the second poll.
