Overview
Suiryu is a key supporting character in One-Punch Man. A martial arts prodigy who masters the Void Fist style, he gained legendary status by winning four consecutive Super Fight tournaments. Driven by a desire for easy prize money and personal entertainment, he initially lived a hedonistic lifestyle while looking down on professional heroes. However, harrowing battles against powerful monsters and a humbling encounter with Saitama radically change his perspective. He later joins the rival organization Neo Heroes as one of its prominent Neo Leaders.
Appearance
Suiryu is a tall young man with dark skin, blue eyes, and long black hair tied back in a signature ponytail. He typically wears a traditional martial arts uniform into battle, which often gets torn during high-intensity fights. Later in the story, he equips a technologically advanced combat suit provided by the Neo Heroes organization.
Personality
Suiryu is fundamentally a carefree playboy who prioritizes personal enjoyment and frequently flirts with women. Possessing immense natural talent, he was initially arrogant, scorning heroes for risking their lives for others. However, after experiencing true terror and being rescued from mortal danger, his worldview shatters. Realizing the vital importance of inner spiritual strength, he develops a genuine respect for heroism and strives to become a true hero himself.
Abilities
As a master of the Void Fist martial art, Suiryu possesses physical capabilities on par with S-Class heroes, easily defeating upper A-Class heroes with single blows. His arsenal includes the Void Sky Dragon Fist, which uses high-speed aerial rotation to unleash continuous strikes; the Void Shaking Tiger Fist, a heavy punch capable of demolishing large trucks; and the Void Phoenix Rising Fist, a straight punch infused with spiral energy. He also utilizes a specialized power suit that amplifies his combat output.
Background
After achieving a four-tournament streak in the Super Fight competition, Suiryu stepped away to indulge in years of leisure. He returned for the 22nd tournament seeking formidable opponents and prize money, easily advancing to the finals against Saitama. Although granted victory due to Saitama's technical disqualification, Suiryu was thoroughly outmatched. When deadly monsters attacked the arena shortly after, he was beaten near death before Saitama saved him. Deeply affected by this ordeal, Suiryu committed himself to becoming a real hero, eventually joining the Neo Heroes.
Relationships
Suiryu holds Saitama in extremely high regard after witnessing his absolute power and being saved by him, even begging to become his disciple. He is protective of his younger sister, Suiko, who is also involved with hero organizations. Although he initially crushed A-Class heroes Lightning Max and Sneck in tournament matches, seeing them selflessly risk their lives against monsters earned them his lasting respect. His grandfather, Suicho, shares a long-standing friendship with Bang.
Trivia
Based on his subtle speech patterns toward older and younger competitors, Suiryu is inferred to be in his mid-twenties. Upon joining the Neo Heroes, he accidentally broke an extremely expensive combat suit valued at five million yen due to his own raw strength, inadvertently burdening himself with debt and binding him to the organization.
