Overview

Cathy, widely known by her nickname "Cat-chan," is a prominent supporting character in Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL. She is a classmate of the series protagonist, Yuma Tsukumo, toward whom she harbors intense romantic feelings. Defined by her feline-themed aesthetic and playful cat-like behavior, she constantly seeks ways to gain Yuma's attention and affection. Alongside her schoolmates, she forms part of the group known as the Numbers Club, participating in their collective activities while supporting Yuma.

Appearance

She features long silver hair styled to form cat-ear shapes on top of her head, giving her an overall feline appearance. According to the original character design concepts drafted by Kazuki Takahashi, she was initially envisioned with a chipped front tooth and an eerie facial expression, with the intention that her look would gradually refine and become prettier over time.

Personality

In the anime adaptation, she begins as a shy and introverted girl who secretly follows Yuma Tsukumo due to her deep crush on him, though she gradually becomes more outgoing and expressive after interacting with him directly. In contrast, the manga portrays her as confident and assertive from her debut, openly displaying jealousy toward Kotori Mizuki. Additionally, she routinely incorporates a cat-themed variation of Yuma's favorite motivational slogan into her speech.

Abilities

She possesses remarkable physical agility and flexibility reminiscent of a cat, allowing her to move with swift, nimble grace. Her athletic capabilities are recognized as the highest among the members of the Numbers Club. When dueling, she utilizes a cat-themed deck composed of monsters with "Cat" in their titles, relying on her signature ace monster, "Twin Tail Cat Lady," to lead her battles.

Background

Cathy is introduced as a classmate of Yuma Tsukumo and his friends. In the anime, she spent her early days observing Yuma from behind trees before taking bold action by detaining Kotori Mizuki to force a duel with him. Although she suffered defeat, she found happiness in the slight progress made in her relationship with Yuma and subsequently joined the Numbers Club. In the manga version, she approaches Yuma after his victory over Ryoga Kamishiro and actively clashes with Kotori for his attention.

Relationships

She harbors intense romantic affection for Yuma Tsukumo, constantly attempting to win his heart. She regards Kotori Mizuki as both a classmate and her primary rival for Yuma's love, demonstrating a fierce competitive streak against her in the manga. She also maintains friendly ties with fellow classmates Tetsuo Takeda, Takashi Todoroki, and Tokunosuke Omoteura, working alongside them as members of the Numbers Club.

Trivia

Her early character design drafts by original creator Kazuki Takahashi were published on the Studio Dice website. In the anime adaptation, she became notably famous among fans for the sharp variations in animation quality between episodes, particularly during the Sargasso arc. When a marathon broadcast of the series took place in 2025, online discussions surrounding her episode animation even trended on X (formerly Twitter).
