Overview

Injection Fairy Lily is an effect monster in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, including the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game. Debuting as an original card in Yu-Gi-Oh! Shin Duel Monsters II: Inherited Memories, she became one of the defining idol cards of the game's second generation thanks to her charming aesthetic combined with massive battle potential. Despite incorporating "Fairy" (Angel) into her name, her card attributes classify her as an Earth-attribute Spellcaster monster.

Appearance

She is depicted as a young girl with pink hair, red eyes, a visible fang, and feathered angel wings on her back. Her red-and-white nurse-style outfit exposes her shoulders, collarbone, and upper chest, completed with a nurse cap, white gloves, and boots. She holds a giant syringe. Her original Japanese card art featured a red cross on her cap and background, which was changed to hearts in international releases and subsequent reprints. In the 3D model of Yu-Gi-Oh! Shin Duel Monsters II: Inherited Memories, she is shown with brown hair.

Personality

In contrast to her adorable outward appearance, official game lore describes her as a somewhat troublesome character who was banished from heaven for recklessly administering too many injections, or who continuously fires syringe needles when enraged. In her animated appearances, she is portrayed with lively facial expressions and an energetic demeanor—demonstrating bright enthusiasm while attacking and reacting dramatically when taking damage or being defeated.

Abilities

In the card game, when she battles, her controller can pay 2000 Life Points during damage calculation to boost her attack power by 3000 for that calculation only, elevating her total ATK to 3400. Because it triggers during damage calculation, it is difficult to disrupt. In animated depictions, she can fly by riding her syringe like a broom or throw her enlarged syringe directly at targets. Conversely, in Yu-Gi-Oh! Shin Duel Monsters II: Inherited Memories, her effect restored 50 Life Points each turn while in face-up Defense Position.

Background

She originated as an initial Deck Leader choice in the PlayStation 2 title Yu-Gi-Oh! Shin Duel Monsters II: Inherited Memories. She later entered the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game in the second-generation booster pack "Mythological Age" as a Normal Rare. Her immense combat power as a low-level monster led to her historic placement on both the Limited and Forbidden card lists. In the Noah arc of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters anime, she was fielded in battle by Kogoro Daimon, a member of the Big Five, while he operated in the form of Jinzo.

Relationships

In the Noah arc of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, she was commanded by Kogoro Daimon, a member of the Big Five taking the form of Jinzo. In the broader card game universe, she has served as the design origin for derivative monsters, including Mental Counselor Lily as a TCG-first card and Animal Doctor Lily in Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel.

Trivia

The choice to classify her as a Spellcaster rather than a Fairy (Angel) despite her name originates from her lore of being cast out of the celestial realm. Her original card art was altered from a red cross to hearts in international prints and subsequent releases to comply with emblem regulations. The sharp contrast between her sweet design and overwhelming battle power made her an enduringly popular monster throughout the franchise's history.
