Appearance
The artwork for Exodia features altered visual design details in international card releases compared to its Japanese counterpart.
Abilities
In the original story, it is portrayed as a god of summoning possessing infinite attack power, unleashing a destructive attack known as Exodo Flame. Under official card game mechanics, holding this card alongside the Right Arm, Left Arm, Right Leg, and Left Leg of the Forbidden One in hand automatically grants the player an immediate victory.
Background
Yami Yugi first summoned Exodia using a deck given to him by Sugoroku Muto to defeat Seto Kaiba's trio of Blue-Eyes White Dragons. En route to Duelist Kingdom, Insector Haga threw Yugi's Exodia cards into the ocean, leaving them incomplete despite Katsuya Jonouchi retrieving two pieces. Later, a Rare Hunter used a duplicated set during Battle City, and in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Amon Garam obtained the cards after breaking their seal in another world.
Relationships
Exodia was originally owned and used in duels by Sugoroku Muto and Yami Yugi (Atem), while also serving as a spirit linked to the ancient priest Shimon. Throughout various story arcs, its cards or derivative forms were also utilized by duelists such as Amon Garam, Gozaburo Kaiba, and a Rare Hunter.
Trivia
The name is believed to derive from the Biblical book of Exodus, with visual and thematic inspiration drawn from the Egyptian myth of Osiris. Within tabletop gaming terminology, the term Exodia has become a universal shorthand for any alternate instant-win combo that relies on gathering specific cards in hand.
