Overview
FrostNova, whose real name is Yelena, is a key antagonist and major story figure in the tactical mobile game Arknights and its adaptations. She served as a high-ranking commander of the Reunion Movement and led the elite Yeti Squadron. Known for her overwhelming cold-based Arts that can freeze entire battlefields, she initially confronted Rhodes Island as a formidable enemy. Despite her intimidating combat role, her tragic resolve and commitment to protecting infected outcast refugees made her a pivotal presence who deeply shook the Doctor and Amiya.
Appearance
FrostNova is a Cautus woman featuring long silver-white hair with bangs covering one eye, distinctively large bunny ears, grey eyes, and hair ornaments. She wears a long white coat—fashioned from the cloak of her adoptive father, Patriot—worn open over her attire. Her outfit is completed with black gloves and over-the-knee boots, and she carries daggers and Originium ice crystals as channels for her caster abilities.
Personality
True to her title, FrostNova projects a distant and cold aura, but underneath lies a deeply compassionate and fierce protector. Having survived extreme childhood trauma, she maintains profound empathy for her comrades, who affectionately address her as their big sister. While troubled by the extreme violence and internal betrayals of Reunion, she bears the burden of leadership unflinchingly. She possesses an unwavering personal honor, remaining resolute in her principles even when pushed to her physical limits.
Abilities
FrostNova commands devastating cold and ice Originium Arts. She casts freezing waves that inflict heavy Arts damage and reduce enemy attack speed, while also possessing the unique ability to permanently freeze deployment tiles, rendering them unusable. Her standard attacks inflict chill and freeze states. Upon defeat, she enters a empowered second phase with a period of invulnerability, gaining vastly increased attack power and devastating skill range. Overexerting her powers causes massive thermal absorption, freezing her immediate environment.
Background
Born in an Ursus labor camp, Yelena lost her family to military executions during childhood. At age eleven, she was rescued from execution by Patriot, who adopted her. She formed the Yeti Squadron and survived on the tundra for years before joining Reunion alongside Talulah. During the operations in Chernobog and Lungmen, she repeatedly clashed with Rhodes Island. Trapped underground with the Doctor after a cave-in, she agreed to a temporary truce where they shared their histories. In her final confrontation, weakened by terminal Oripathy, she fought to her limit before passing away in the Doctor's arms, pledging her allegiance to Rhodes Island with her final breath.
Relationships
Patriot was her adoptive father and savior, whom she loved deeply despite occasionally calling him stubborn. She shared an impenetrable familial bond with her subordinates in the Yeti Squadron. Though she followed Talulah within Reunion, she became disillusioned with Talulah's changing methods. During her clashes with Rhodes Island, she developed a mutual respect for Amiya, Blaze, and the Doctor; following her death, she was honored as a symbolic member of Rhodes Island.
Trivia
Due to severe Oripathy, her body temperature was extraordinarily low, forcing her to consume spicy candies made of alcohol and spices rather than hot drinks, which would injure her organs. In gameplay, she was notable for being the first boss featuring multiple health bars and an unexpectedly heavy weight stat. Her legacy persists throughout the story through commemorated equipment, honorary roster inclusion, and specialized anti-freeze medicine named after her.
