Adenine is a Wind-element Healer-class Rare Blade appearing in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Awakened randomly through Blade bonding, she wields book-shaped Knuckle Claws in combat. As a passionate scholar driven by endless curiosity, she travels the world to gather knowledge and unravel the mysteries of ultra-ancient civilizations. After completing her dedicated Blade Quest, she makes her home in the World Tree's data management room, though she can continuously remain in the player's active party for battle and exploration.

Appearance
Adenine has a distinct body made of paper-like material resembling unbound book pages, characterized by a prominent hollow hole in her abdomen. She wears golden armor on her upper torso, which is connected by chains to a massive floating tome that she reads during idle moments. She also equips book-shaped knuckles on her hands. Despite her boyish speech and androgynous presentation, she is female.
Personality
Adenine is an intensely curious researcher fascinated by history, biology, lost technology, and ancient civilizations. When discovering historic artifacts, she gets so excited that she performs a small dance. Her academic fixation often leads to selfish behavior, such as obsessing over field research during combat or expecting financial backing for her studies without hesitation. While she casually makes disturbing remarks about capturing or dissecting enemies for research, she genuinely cares for her allies and reacts angrily when her Driver is harmed.
Abilities
Adenine manipulates Wind ether using her Knuckle Claws. Although categorized as a Healer, her battle skills heavily focus on offense, boosting Blade Combo damage, weakness exploitation, and item drop rates rather than direct healing. Her Special attacks involve launching compressed air, creating vacuums through swift strikes and kicks, and executing heavy aerial combos. Field skills include Wind Mastery, Keen Eye, and her unique Ultimate Ancient Knowledge skill.
Background
Driven by the dream of acquiring all known information, Adenine spends her time reading historical texts and conducting field research. Deciphering obscure ancient documents across Alrest eventually leads her to a major discovery, culminating in her establishing a research post in the World Tree's data management room. Even with the world's fate at stake near the end of the journey, her overriding passion remains dedicated to decoding lost historical records.
Relationships
Adenine travels alongside the main party as a loyal Blade. Her extreme single-mindedness regarding research leads Zeke to jokingly remark that she feels like their biggest opponent. In a Heart-to-Heart event at Goldmouth, she engages in a battle of historical trivia against a Nopon over a rare book they both wish to purchase.
Trivia
Adenine was designed by illustrator Takeshi Ogata. Her Japanese name, Shiki, is derived from the kanji character meaning knowledge or discernment. When dispatching mercenaries, her unit operates under the name 'Adenine Library' (Shiki Library). Her favorite items belong to the book and vegetable categories, with particular preference for Torigoth Veggie Marinade and Leftherian Life.
