Overview

Ethel is a character from Xenoblade Chronicles 3. She serves as the commander of Colony 4 within the nation of Keves and is widely known by the moniker Silver Ethel. On the battlefield, she fights using a dual-wielding style with twin rapiers. She is also the first Hero character who temporarily joins Noah and his companions on their journey.

Appearance

Ethel is a tall, beautiful woman with long silver-white hair extending down to her waist, and a prominent Flame Clock mark located on her left chest. In historical flashbacks depicting her earlier years, she is shown with medium-length hair and wearing standard military armor.

Personality

Ethel holds an unshakeable sense of justice and refuses to engage in unnecessary slaughter. She prioritizes the well-being of her subordinates over her own authority as a military commander, earning their total trust and devotion. Even in a war-torn world, she maintains high moral principles and a deeply honorable nature.

Abilities

Ethel operates as an attacker class known as Flash Fencer, wielding dual rapiers in battle. Her combat style focuses on rapid strikes, allowing her to unleash powerful talent arts and physical skills early in an encounter, particularly utilizing positional attacks to maximize damage and critical hits.

Background

After rapidly elevating her colony's rank, Ethel was demoted to the lowest status when she showed mercy to the enemy commander Cammuravi due to a mechanical issue with his Ferronis. Freed from Moebius control with Noah's help, she later chose to engage in a final, uncoerced duel against Cammuravi, resulting in their mutual destruction. She is subsequently re-incubated in a cradle without her memories before opting to rapidly age up and fight again.

Relationships

Ethel saved Noah's life in the past, earning his deep gratitude. Her lieutenant, Borealis, respects her greatly while constantly worrying about her well-being. She shares a mutual rivalry and intense bond of respect with Cammuravi, the commander of an Agnian colony.

Trivia

Her dual-wielding battle design and story progression involving early party departure followed by a later return share structural themes seen in earlier Xenoblade Chronicles titles.
