Overview

Praxis is a Rare Blade featured in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, classified under the Water element and the Attack role. Designed by artist CHOCO (Koichi Mugitani), she fights using a lance. Unlike Blades obtained randomly, she joins the player's party by bonding with a specific Core Crystal earned through a side quest. Originally bound to a Driver affiliated with a ruthless band of Core Crystal thieves, her re-awakening under Rex's party strips away her dark past, revealing a bright, caring personality as she builds a fresh sisterly connection with her former partner Theory.

Appearance

Praxis is featured as a girl with light blue hair and an eyepatch covering her right eye. She has a voluptuous build and wears an outfit designed with rounded contours. Her attire includes removable spherical ornaments resembling water balloons, commonly referred to as "Marimari."

Personality

Praxis has a bright, energetic, and protective nature. She shows great enthusiasm when supporting her allies, though she also displays a chaotic side—leaving her quarters untidy, eating ravenously, and jumping headfirst into baths. Under the influence of her previous Driver, she was once ruthless and cruel, but re-awakening cleanses this behavior, bringing back her natural warmth. She takes on a protective, affectionate older-sister role toward Theory, constantly looking after her.

Abilities

Praxis is a Water-element Attack Blade wielding a lance. She possesses low physical and ether defenses, both set at 5%, along with a 10% Dexterity stat bonus and one assist core slot. Her Specials include Shaomplosion, which fires bubble-like ether forward; Quell Geysir, which unleashes a concentrated water torrent from her weapon; Wolkenbruch Flash, a series of high-speed thrusts; and Regenguss Raid, a swift evasive assault. Her battle skills include Awakening Girl - Power and Awakening Girl - Skill, boosting damage and accuracy at max Affinity, alongside Full of Energy, which raises damage output when her HP is at 90% or higher. When paired with Mòrag or Zeke, she grants access to Smash Driver Arts. Her field skills consist of Girls' Talk, Water Control, and Salvaging Mastery.

Background

Praxis was originally part of a band of Core Crystal hunters who murdered Drivers and stole their crystals. She ambushed Rex's group in Torigoth on Gormott, later luring them into a trap. However, when her own Driver was killed in a separate fight, she reverted to a Core Crystal and was recovered by Rex's party. Upon being re-awakened, she lost all memories of her past actions. Learning of the pain she had caused, she actively sought to make amends by visiting past victims to apologize on behalf of Theory.

Relationships

Theory was Praxis's partner during their time with the Core Crystal hunters. Despite losing her memories after returning to her crystal, Praxis naturally cared for Theory and assumed the role of a doting elder sister. Although Theory was initially annoyed by her pushiness, she gradually warmed up to Praxis, eventually addressing her as an older sister. Praxis maintains a friendly relationship with Rex, cheering him on during his work. She also shares playful post-battle exchanges with Zeke, who humorously complains about them both sharing the eyepatch trope.

Trivia

According to designer Koichi Mugitani (CHOCO), Praxis was originally commissioned as a single Blade, but the wealth of design ideas ultimately split her into two complementary Blades alongside Theory. As a result, the two share mirrored visual elements, such as Praxis wearing her eyepatch over her right eye while Theory wears hers over the left, along with contrasting rounded and sharp garment motifs. Her Japanese name, Mikumari, originates from the Shinto water distribution deity Mikumari-no-kami, a figure also associated with childbirth and child-rearing, which likely influenced her curvy character design.
