Newt is a Rare Blade featured in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, designed by illustrator Takeshi Nogami. Appearance

Newt features a military-themed color scheme with khaki-toned skin, short hair, red eyes, glasses, white gloves, and a military cap paired with a revealing uniform. Aside from her natural limbs, a massive pair of floating arms—longer and twice as thick as her torso—hovers around her. A large, blinking single eye is located on the back of her head. Her weapon is a relatively unadorned katana resembling a military saber.

Personality

Despite adhering to formal, soldier-like speech mannerisms and referring to herself with disciplined terminology, Newt possesses an exceptionally high-energy and excitable temperament. She is a dedicated military otaku with an extreme passion for armed technology, holding deep admiration for the engineering and Titan weaponry of Mor Ardain. Whenever military topics arise, her enthusiasm peaks instantly.

Abilities

Newt operates as a Fire-element Tank wielding a katana. Her massive floating arms allow her to swing her weapon forcefully and assist in physical tasks by lifting heavy objects or supporting herself on water. Her scabbard can launch powerful ether blasts to trigger special attacks such as Mach Deflection and Hyper Detonation Finish. In combat, she provides defensive support by capturing target aggression, mitigating incoming damage for nearby allies, and resisting enemy reaction combos. Her Field Skills include Superstrength, Salvaging Mastery, and Titan Weaponry.

Background

Newt joins the protagonist's party through Blade Bonding from a Core Crystal. Driven by her deep interest in military technology, her personal Blade Quest unfolds through involvement with Mor Ardain's military exercises. She also contributes to mercenary dispatch missions by utilizing her strategic military knowledge and exceptional physical power.

Relationships

Newt holds immense admiration for Mòrag Ladair due to her deep appreciation for Mor Ardainian military engineering. However, in terms of combat synergy, pairing her with Mòrag creates heavy overlap with Mòrag's existing Fire and Katana Blades, Brighid and Aegaeon. Consequently, players frequently assign Newt to Zeke von Genbu, whose dramatic style aligns well with her flamboyantly named battle techniques.
