Overview
Herald is a Rare Blade in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. She aligns with the Electric element and serves as an attacker wielding an Ether Cannon. Sealed within a Core Crystal at the ruins of the Theoscaldi Temple in the Kingdom of Tantal, she is reawakened after specific requirements are met. Enclosed within a massive dragon-like exoskeleton that floats in midair, she commands immense offensive power while harboring a deep anxiety over losing control of her destructive energy.
Appearance
Herald presents as a woman encapsulated inside a massive exoskeleton resembling a dragon. She hovers in the air continuously using wings mounted on her back. Her design features a jewel set in her chest, along with wavy long hair, a monstrous posture within her armor, and coloration incorporating shades of blue, pink, purple, and white across her eyes and hair.
Personality
Herald harbors a persistent dread of her own catastrophic strength, fearing that her abilities will inevitably bring tragedy to those around her. Although she lacks clear memories of her past deeds, she acknowledges the inherent danger within herself, leading to a reserved demeanor defined by caution and an underlying anxiety regarding potential rampages.
Abilities
Herald utilizes an Ether Cannon to engage enemies from a distance. Her special moves include firing homing shots from her weapon and tail, discharging thick electric ether that creates massive explosions, un-limiting her power to charge forward, and firing an ultra-powerful laser. When her affinity reaches maximum, her capability drastically increases both the damage she deals and receives. She also possesses field skills related to Superstrength and Electric Mastery.
Background
In the distant past, Herald lost control of her powers in the Kingdom of Tantal, resulting in the destruction of the Theoscaldi Temple. The catastrophe was only stopped when her driver ended their own life, leading to her Core Crystal being locked away at a sealed altar. Her seal is eventually broken when specific collection items gathered across Alrest are offered, allowing her to form a new bond with Rex and his companions.
Relationships
King Eulogimenos of Tantal possesses historical knowledge regarding her past rampage and the loss of her former driver. After being reawakened, she travels alongside Rex and his allies, who support her as she confronts her deeply ingrained trauma of losing control.
Trivia
Herald was designed by illustrator Hideo Minaba. Her favorite category preferences include drinks and board games, with specific favorite items being the Moonlight Banana-au-Lait and the Jewel Billiards set.
