Overview
Finch is a Wind-element Rare Blade in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 who operates in a Defense role using a hammer in battle. Taking the form of a small green avian humanoid, she constantly wears a dazed expression and suffers from extreme forgetfulness.
Appearance
Finch resembles a small green bird-like humanoid. She wears goggles on her head, which she pulls over her eyes when executing Special attacks. Her face typically wears a sleepy, dazed expression.
Personality
Finch has severe short-term memory loss and quickly forgets almost everything, including the main quest objectives, immediate surroundings, and even the names of her companions. Despite constantly bewildering her allies with her absentmindedness, she is unbothered by her condition and enjoys exploring the world. She typically speaks in a noticeably flat, deadpan tone.
Abilities
Finch fights with a shield hammer, utilizing Specials like Clear Shot to fire ether rounds or Crash and Burn to strike surrounding enemies while spinning atop her weapon. Her combat capabilities focus on interfering with enemy actions, including a skill that can reset enemy Art cooldowns. She also possesses the unique Field Skill known as Birdbrain.
Background
Finch is a Rare Blade awakened through Core Crystal bonding. During her Blade Quest in Argentum, she is mistaken for a Tirkin—a species of avian monsters. To prove that she possesses greater intelligence than a Tirkin, she sets off to recover stolen goods.
Relationships
Finch accompanies Rex and the party, though she frequently misremembers their names, addressing Dromarch as Nyakko and Tora as Nora. She and Zeke share a friendly dynamic where they casually call each other idiots.
Trivia
Finch was designed by Kunihiko Tanaka and was the very first Rare Blade officially revealed prior to the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. In combat, her voice lines contrast heavily between her usual laid-back remarks and surprisingly dark phrases delivered in the same flat tone.
