Overview
Alfred F. Jones represents the United States of America as a main character in the Hetalia series. Youthful, boisterous, and highly energetic, he crowns himself the Hero who leads the world. Guided by a strong sense of freedom and justice, he frequently takes the initiative in global affairs, driving events forward through his assertive personality and sheer enthusiasm.
Appearance
He is a young man of Anglo-Saxon appearance with blonde hair and light blue eyes. His hair is parted on the right with a prominent crescent-shaped ahoge representing Nantucket Island. He wears glasses that symbolize the state of Texas and has identification dog tags engraved with his name around his neck. His attire includes a jacket paired with a necktie and gloves.
Personality
Alfred is outgoing, bright, and fiercely optimistic, driven by a powerful sense of justice. He constantly strives to be number one and acts with relentless enthusiasm. While often perceived as unable to read the room, he sometimes deliberately disregards the surrounding atmosphere to pursue his goals. He loves junk food like hamburgers and cola, frequently worrying about his weight. Ironically, despite enjoying horror movies, he is terrified of supernatural ghosts because physical attacks cannot reach them.
Abilities
Possessing immense superhuman strength since childhood, he was capable of swinging wild buffalo around and dragging an automobile on foot for an hour. In combat, he relies on rapid offensive strike tactics, and he can swim at extraordinary speeds comparable to a shark. He also exhibits strong technical aptitude, including the ability to build and invent unique exercise and diet machines.
Background
Discovered alone in the New World as a child, he was raised under the care of European nations, forming a particularly close bond with the United Kingdom as his guardian. As he grew, he sought independence, engaging in a decisive war that freed his nation. He subsequently rose to become a global superpower, navigating complex international rivalries during the Cold War era and continuing to play a prominent leading role on the modern world stage.
Relationships
He shares a deep, intricate history with Arthur Kirkland of the United Kingdom, who raised him prior to their dramatic separation during the Revolutionary War. He is the adoptive brother of Matthew Williams of Canada, with whom he shares a striking facial resemblance. He maintains a friendly friendship with Kiku Honda of Japan, engages in a tense geopolitical rivalry with Ivan Braginski of Russia, and lives with a grey extraterrestrial companion named Tony.
Trivia
Geographical motifs are integrated into his design: his hair strand represents Nantucket Island, while his glasses stand for Texas. He famously owns a personal world map that displays only his own nation, and he uses an eagle to deliver letters. In official gender-swapped iterations of the series, his female counterpart is designated as Emily Jones.
