Overview

Feliks Łukasiewicz is the personification of Poland in Hidekaz Himaruya's comedy manga and anime franchise Hetalia Axis Powers. Having once controlled a powerful union state in Central and Eastern Europe during the Middle Ages, he is a resilient nation character renowned for rising like a phoenix despite repeated historical partitions and state collapses. Defined by his unique high-school girl speech pattern and erratic line of thought, he presents an unapologetically self-centered yet unforgettable presence within the series.

Appearance

He has straight platinum-blonde hair of medium length, parted down the middle without bangs. His green eyes are small, slanted, and half-open, set in a face that juxtaposes a troubled brow with a smirking mouth. Standing 170 cm tall with a visual age of 19, his attire includes standard shirts, jackets, trousers, gloves, military uniforms, traditional Polish folk costumes, and heavy winter coats. Reflecting early character designs, he is also occasionally depicted wearing female dresses during special seasonal illustrations.

Personality

Feliks is intensely self-centered and whimsical, frequently ignoring what others say to launch into bizarre, jumping topics. He speaks with speech mannerisms reminiscent of a Nagoya high-school girl. Highly shy and anxious around strangers, he panics and attempts to speak in a standard formal tone, though he cannot sustain it for long. Once comfortable with someone, he adopts a bossy, king-like demeanor and clings to them constantly. Although he appears irresponsible and lightheaded on the surface, he is surprisingly sensitive and calculating, with deep deliberation often underlying his absurd behavior. He also loves the color pink and often expresses a desire to repaint his surroundings pink.

Abilities

Feliks can declare "Poland Rule," an ability that unilaterally enforces absurd personal conditions on others, such as designating an opponent's capital city as Warsaw or causing his own turn to continue indefinitely. In addition to his status as a knight, he possesses agricultural capabilities as a farming nation. Historically, he exhibited formidable combat strength alongside Toris Laurinaitis, defeating the Teutonic Knights. In modern settings, he demonstrates strong video gaming proficiency, winning a tournament hosted by Alfred F. Jones and engaging in video game streaming.

Background

During the medieval era, Feliks formed a joint alliance with Toris Laurinaitis, governing a vast territory across Central and Eastern Europe. Over subsequent centuries, his nation suffered multiple partitions and territorial erasures by neighboring powers, including Ivan Braginsky (Russia) and Prussia. Despite total state dissolution on several occasions, he consistently revived like a phoenix. Remaining unyielding through long periods of hardship, he eventually regained his sovereignty and continues to maintain his national standing while supporting his historical allies.

Relationships

Toris Laurinaitis (Lithuania) is his former union partner and closest friend. Although Feliks regularly bosses Toris around and drags him into unreasonable situations, he holds deep affection for him and actively supports his independence. Ivan Braginsky (Russia) and Prussia are deeply disliked by Feliks due to their history of invasion and partition, yet Feliks remains fiercely defiant toward Ivan without fear. Feliciano Vargas (Italy) is a childhood friend with whom he maintained contact during partition periods. Elisabeth Héderváry (Hungary) shares a close friendship with him and calls him by an affectionate nickname. Alfred F. Jones (America) hosted a video game tournament in which Feliks entered and won.

Trivia

His given name "Feliks" originates from the Latin word fēlīx, meaning "fortunate" or "lucky." His speech mannerisms were inspired by a real-life friend from Nagoya whom the author met while staying in the United States. He was originally designed as a female character before being changed to male, which accounts for his frequent cross-dressing depictions in official art. Instead of purchasing a tank, he bought a pet pony named "Pony." His official birthday was initially designated as July 22 (commemorating the Polish People's Republic) before being changed in the second manga volume to November 11 (Polish Independence Day).
