Overview

Gogmazios is a colossal Elder Dragon appearing in the Monster Hunter series. Serving as the final boss of the Gathering Hall in Monster Hunter 4G, it later reappeared in a major update for Monster Hunter Wilds. Spanning over forty-nine meters in length, this massive creature possesses a unique biology centered around consuming gunpowder and sulfur. It spreads disaster by raiding weapon storehouses in human settlements to feed, leaving destruction in its wake while covered in a thick, dark substance excreted from its body.

Appearance

Gogmazios is an immense Elder Dragon sharing a six-limbed skeletal structure with species like Shagaru Magala. Although its natural shell is pale white, its surface appears dark bluish-black due to heavy dragonbone oil and trapped debris hardening over its body. It possesses functional forelegs and hindlegs alongside wing-legs known as muscle-fiber wings. Stuck to its back are massive weapons caught in its tar: the original Dragonator in Monster Hunter 4G, and the Convergent Elderbreaker cannon in Monster Hunter Wilds. When heated, the hardened tar evaporates, allowing its wings to unfurl.

Personality

Gogmazios harbors an insatiable craving for sulfur and gunpowder, driving it to infiltrate human settlements and completely exhaust weapon armories. Despite its staggering volume, it exhibits unnerving stealth, vanishing like smoke during migration and leaving no traces for the Guild to track. It typically spends years or decades hibernating deep underground between feedings. However, when threatened or excited, its bodily heat rises, causing it to become intensely violent and carpet-bomb its surroundings from the air with explosive fury.

Abilities

Gogmazios secretes heavy dragonbone oil that binds opponents upon contact and amplifies heat-based damage. It can spew torrents of heavy oil or superheated thermal beams to incinerate targets. The oil coating shifts between solid, liquid, and gaseous states when exposed to heat, softening its defenses. Upon awakening, its elevated body temperature causes spilled oil to explode on contact with the ground. It can take flight with its freed wings to deliver aerial heat beam barrages and heavy oil carpet bombings. The Dragonator on its back can be detached for use against it, while the Convergent Elderbreaker fires dragon-element energy.

Background

Years ago, Gogmazios raided the armory of the fortress city of Dundorma, vanishing along with vast quantities of gunpowder and the city's revered original Dragonator. Its identity remained a mystery to the Guild until a second armory theft revealed traces of dark oil, leading investigators to uncover the colossal Elder Dragon carrying the stolen weapon on its back. As it marched toward Dundorma, His Immenseness commissioned accomplished hunters to intercept and slay the beast. In later years, another individual was discovered hibernating near an abandoned factory in underground volcanic ruins, prompting another major hunting operation to protect nearby settlements.

Relationships

Gogmazios shares a bitter history with the fortress city of Dundorma and its leader, His Immenseness, having stolen their symbolic original Dragonator along with their gunpowder supply. Its advances toward Dundorma and later the village of Azuzu forced Guild-commissioned hunters and support personnel—such as Fabius, Kai, Mina, and Nadia—to engage it in desperate battles. Biologically, it shares its six-limbed physical frame and movement patterns with Gore Magala and Shagaru Magala.

Trivia

Weapons crafted from Gogmazios materials possess the Sleep status effect rather than the expected Fire element, along with unique sharpness characteristics. Its equipment features dramatic, poetic names derived from ancient languages such as Greek and Latin. Within the Monster Hunter universe, it ranks among the largest creatures capable of true powered flight using wings.
