Kayna is a character in the role-playing game Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Hailing from Mahana Village, she is an experienced Rider who acts as a dependable senior and mentor figure to the protagonist. Defined by her spirited, open-hearted nature and unbound sense of adventure, she guides the protagonist through the initial stages of their journey, serving as both an instructor in the ways of Riders and an encouraging companion during their early quests.

Appearance

Kayna features tanned skin and long hair styled into a braided ponytail. Her outfit consists of a blue and orange tribal-style Rider attire that leaves her midriff exposed. She wears jewelry including earrings as well as necklaces fashioned from shells and animal teeth, and keeps a decorative mask positioned on her head.

Personality

Kayna possesses a free-spirited, big-sisterly personality characterized by enthusiasm and strong leadership. She approaches every situation with cheerful optimism, frequently expressing her excitement aloud. Generous and nurturing toward the protagonist, she takes pride in guiding newcomer Riders. Her broad-minded nature is further highlighted when she willingly relinquishes one of her own Monsties to the protagonist after noticing the creature's strong attachment to them.

Abilities

As a skilled Rider, Kayna possesses the ability to form bonds with monsters and fight alongside them in battle. Her primary weapon of choice is the Sword and Shield, allowing her to engage in close-quarters combat while supporting her team. Her main partner monster in battle is a Velocidrome named Avmar. She also previously trained another Velocidrome named Ranmar, demonstrating her adeptness at raising and commanding monsters.

Background

Kayna grew up in Mahana Village, where she established herself as a fully fledged Rider. When the protagonist embarks on their journey as a new Rider, Kayna steps up as their designated senior instructor. She accompanies the protagonist through their initial explorations, imparting crucial knowledge about Rider techniques and Kinship Stones while providing reliable combat support.

Relationships

Kayna acts as a supportive mentor to the protagonist, treating them with protective warmth while teaching them the fundamentals of being a Rider. She shares a special connection with her Monsties; notably, after her Velocidrome Ranmar takes a strong liking to the protagonist, she gifts the monster to them. Her primary active Monstie companion is her loyal Velocidrome, Avmar.

Kayna serves as the player's very first battle buddy partner during the early story quests of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.
