Overview
Seregios is a Flying Wyvern introduced as the flagship monster of Monster Hunter 4G. Known by the title "Thousand-Blade Wyvern," it is defined by its gleaming golden body scales and a single prominent horn on its forehead. Designed as an aerial counterpart and rival to Rathalos, Seregios utilizes exceptional flight maneuverability and devastating leg strikes to dominate its territory.
Appearance
Seregios features a body clad in radiant golden scales and a single horn extending from its forehead. Its wings and hind legs are powerful, with feet possessing a bird-like digit structure where two toes point forward and two point backward. Unlike typical quadrupeds, its posture involves resting its front limbs only lightly on the ground. Upon becoming enraged, its forehead horn and body scales bristle upward, taking on a spiky shape reminiscent of a pinecone.
Personality
Seregios is marked by relentless aggression, fearlessly attacking any large monster that crosses its path. Shaped by severe intra-species competition, individuals fight fiercely over territory, and weaker members forced out of their habitats often perish. Females raising offspring become exceptionally violent, actively killing any conspecifics that venture near their nests.
Abilities
Possessing high aerial flexibility, Seregios performs rapid accelerations, sharp turns, and mid-air somersaults to press its attack. It leverages its hind legs for mid-air dive kicks or to seize prey and hurl them. Its signature ability involves launching sharp "Blade Scales" that detonate after landing, inflicting a "Bleeding" condition. Affected targets sustain health loss whenever they sprint or attack, forcing them to remain crouched or consume specific items to heal.
Background
Native to isolated environments like the Unknown Forest, Seregios suffered severe ecological displacement when a dominant individual overcame Shagaru Magala's Frenzy Virus. This Apex individual drove large numbers of Seregios into regions such as the Old Desert, creating widespread chaos across ecosystems. Hunters dispatched by the Guild contained the migrating populations and ultimately defeated the Frenzied individual in the Unknown Forest. Seregios returns in subsequent titles including Monster Hunter Generations, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, Monster Hunter Wilds, and the Monster Hunter Stories spin-offs.
Relationships
Seregios shares a fierce rivalry with Rathalos as a competing master of the skies. It demonstrates open hostility toward Rathian, violently driving them from their resting places. Its ecosystem displacement links it to Shagaru Magala and the Frenzy Virus. In the Windward Plains of Monster Hunter Wilds, Seregios directly engages in turf wars with Rey Dau, an apex predator sharing a similar golden coloring.
Trivia
Weapons crafted from Seregios components bear production names derived from Arabic vocabulary. Historically, these weapons featured unique mechanics, such as restoring sharpness or auto-loading bowgun ammunition upon performing an evasion maneuver. Due to its bristled scale arrangement when enraged, Seregios earned the popular fan nickname "pinecone." Its original design concept was created to serve as an aerial rival to Rathalos.
