Overview

Rajang is a Fanged Beast featured in the Monster Hunter video game series, introduced in Monster Hunter 2. Commonly referred to by the title Golden Lion, this ultra-aggressive species possesses immense combat prowess comparable to Elder Dragons. Known for its extreme hostility and incredible physical strength, Rajang is classified as a top-tier threat whose aggressive nature leaves few survivors among those who encounter it.

Appearance

Rajang features a muscular upper body resembling a gorilla combined with a lion-like lower body. Its head has features reminiscent of a baboon, flanked by a pair of large horns growing from the sides, alongside sharp teeth and claws. While normally covered in black fur, its coat changes to a radiant gold when excited, accompanied by the mane on its upper back standing erect. In its fully powered state, its forearms swell and turn a dark reddish-black color.

Personality

Rajang is characterized by extreme territoriality and boundless aggression. It relentlessly attacks any living creature within its sight and will not stop until its target is completely eliminated. Driven by an unquenchable instinct for combat and the rapid depletion of local prey caused by its presence, it constantly wanders across various harsh and temperate environments.

Abilities

Demonstrating immense physical force, Rajang pummels foes with relentless punch combinations, spinning attacks, and by ripping massive rocks from the ground to throw. It expels specialized energy beams and electrical projectiles from its mouth. During its hardened physical state, its enlarged forearms deflect physical weapons and projectiles. By hunting Kirin and consuming their blue horns, it unlocks its inherent electrical output capabilities.

Background

Due to its low population and the rarity of survivors from its attacks, official ecological research on Rajang has long been limited. Ancient texts mention its power as being equal to Elder Dragons, leading scholars to treat it with unique interest. Capable of surviving in extreme environments ranging from volcanic regions to snowy mountains, its nomadic nature presents a constant threat to regional ecosystems.

Relationships

Rajang targets the Elder Dragon Kirin, hunting it to snap off and consume its horn as part of its growth into a fully realized adult. It also shares a destructive rivalry with the nomadic apex predator Deviljho, engaging in violent battles whenever their territories overlap.

Trivia

The name Rajang is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Rajah', which translates to king. Due to its dramatic physical transformation and destructive strength, it occupies a legendary status within the folklore of its universe.
