Overview
Higokumaru is a companion character appearing in the game Honkai Impact 3rd, serving as a floating guide within the Sakura Samsara open-world mode. Possessing a diminutive, fox-like spirit form, she accompanies the player throughout their exploration. Beneath her adorable mascot-like appearance lies an origin tied to Rin, the Previous Era's Herrscher of Corruption.
Appearance
Higokumaru appears as a small, floating spirit with a chibi physique. She features long pink hair adorned with hair ornaments, striking blue eyes, and visible fangs. Fox ears and multiple fluffy fox tails define her design. Her outfit consists of shrine maiden-inspired traditional Japanese garments styled in a red and white palette with sleeveless, bare-shoulder cuts.
Personality
Higokumaru exhibits a cheerful, energetic, and playful demeanor reminiscent of an affectionate younger sister. She forms quick attachments to those around her, addressing the player as her boss and demonstrating intense adoration for Yae Sakura. A defining quirk is her extreme obsession with fried tofu, which frequently drives her behavior and serves as comedic relief.
Abilities
Higokumaru possesses the capability of continuous levitation, allowing her to accompany Valkyries during field operations. Within the Sakura Samsara area, she functions as an active combat and exploration support spirit. Her entity is historically linked to the powers of the Previous Era's twelfth Herrscher, the Herrscher of Corruption, having once been sealed inside the divine blade known as Jizo Mitama.
Background
Higokumaru's origin lies in the Previous Era, where she was human and named Rin, the younger sister of the Flamechaser Sakura. After succumbing to a tragic fate, she awakened as the Previous Era's twelfth Herrscher, the Herrscher of Corruption. Following her containment, her spirit was sealed within the weapon Jizo Mitama. Over time, she lost her memories of her former identity, eventually re-emerging as the harmless fox spirit known today as Higokumaru.
Relationships
Higokumaru maintains a strong bond with Yae Sakura, affectionately addressing her as her elder sister due to their past connection in the Previous Era. This identity is distinct from Yae Sakura's Current Era younger sister, Yae Rin. She also forms a close companionship with the player character, whom she warmly refers to as her boss.
Trivia
Although originally named Rin, Higokumaru is distinctly separate from Yae Rin, who is Yae Sakura's sister in the Current Era timeline. Her intense fondness for fried tofu is one of her most recognizable traits, frequently highlighted in narrative interactions.
