Overview
Cithis is a supporting character in Dungeon Meshi. She is an elven criminal serving a life sentence who works as part of the Canaries, a specialized unit tasked with dungeon exploration. Formerly a fortune teller catering to high-society clients, she now functions within the squad while assigned to look after Captain Mithrun during their operations.
Appearance
Cithis is a tall, slender elven woman with dark skin reminiscent of a dark elf. She has long silver hair parted in the center, yellow eyes, pointed ears—one of which bears a noticeable notch—and distinct facial markings on her forehead and face. Her attire includes a hooded green cape, accompanied by jewelry such as rings, bracelets, and hair ornaments.
Personality
Cithis harbors deep resentment toward the wealthy and noble classes, often maintaining a playful yet mischievous demeanor toward others. She initially viewed Captain Mithrun as little more than a toy to amuse herself with, taking advantage of his lack of desire. However, after he resisted her magic to uphold squad rules, she gained a slight sense of respect for him.
Abilities
Cithis is a highly skilled practitioner of illusion magic triggered by the sound of a bell. Her spells can instantly confuse and manipulate the minds of others, easily incapacitating targets such as Laios, Chilchuck, and Senshi simultaneously. She previously used these hypnotic arts to influence powerful clients during her time as a fortune teller.
Background
Originally a fortune teller serving powerful patrons, Cithis was sentenced to life imprisonment for crimes including ancient magic use, fraud, document forgery, and inciting murder. To reduce her sentence, she joined the Canaries, frequently manipulating her guards to cycle through the system until assigned to Captain Mithrun. Following the resolution of the dungeon crisis, her life sentence was commuted.
Relationships
Cithis serves as a handler for Captain Mithrun, holding a mild respect for him despite her initial mistreatment. She often clashes with Pattadol, an earnest guard whose strict nature annoys her. She also interacts with Kabru, encouraging his efforts to help Mithrun regain his drive following the ordeal in the dungeon.
Trivia
Her favorite food is shrimp, while she strongly dislikes roughly prepared or unrefined meals.
