Overview
Senshi, also known as Senshi of Izganda, is a main character in the manga and anime series Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi), created by Ryoko Kui. Originating from Izganda on the Eastern Continent, he is a dwarf axe-warrior whose name translates to "seeker" in the dwarven language. Having lived self-sufficiently inside the dungeon while researching the culinary uses of monsters for over a decade, he joins Laios Touden's expedition after witnessing the group's poor attempt at cooking a monster. Within the party, he functions both as a frontline combatant and as the primary chef.
Appearance
Senshi is a dwarf with a stocky, muscular build, dark eyes, and long black hair accompanied by a thick, bushy black beard that covers his jaw and upper lip. He wears a distinctive helmet adorned with fake horns and a chin guard, which he rarely takes off. His outfit consists of a leather kilt and matching bracers, and he routinely wears a white loincloth underneath. He carries a large cooking pot on his back along with a variety of culinary tools—including a kitchen knife, seasoning containers, and drying nets—while wielding a visibly chipped battleaxe.
Personality
Guided by a strong belief that food is essential to life and that adults are responsible for nourishing the young, Senshi places utmost importance on balanced nutrition. While meticulously demanding when it comes to cooking, he exhibits an easygoing, eccentric, and occasionally unobservant demeanor in everyday affairs. Due to his extended isolation deep within the dungeon, he lacks standard surface intuition, often misjudging individuals' maturity based entirely on physical size. He holds a deep respect for natural ecology, disliking unnecessary killing or overharvesting.
Abilities
Senshi possesses extensive practical expertise in monster anatomy, allowing him to swiftly dismantle creatures and locate their weak points in combat. He utilizes his culinary tools with high effectiveness, including a massive cooking pot repurposed from an adamantine shield—which doubles as a sturdy defensive barrier—and a kitchen knife crafted from legendary mithril. He exhibits remarkably high resistance to heat, capable of placing his fingers directly into boiling oil without suffering burns.
Background
In his youth, Senshi entered the ruined golden dungeon alongside a group of fellow miners, only for the expedition to turn disastrous as his companions perished one by one. Traumatized by the ambiguous memory of a soup he was fed during the ordeal, he remained in the labyrinth for decades, learning survival techniques from local orcs and developing his monster-cooking skills in isolation. Upon meeting Laios and his party, Senshi joined their quest in pursuit of his long-held desire to prepare and cook a red dragon.
Relationships
Senshi shares a mutual fascination with monster cuisine alongside Laios Touden, forming a strong bond based on shared interests. He frequently debates Marcille Donato over the nature of magic and dungeon ecology, though the two maintain a caring dynamic beneath their arguments. He long treated Chilchuck Tims as a juvenile due to his small stature, unaware of his true age. He holds profound gratitude toward Gillin, his former mining party leader who sacrificed himself and left Senshi his iconic helmet.
Trivia
When exposed to Changeling spores, Senshi temporarily transformed into a bishounen-style elf, drastically altering his appearance and demeanor. His cherished cookware was created by retrofitting extraordinarily rare materials, such as an ancient adamantine shield and a mithril blade, an act that leaves traditional dwarf smiths baffled. Furthermore, he secretly turned rogue dungeon golems into self-sustaining vegetable gardens using reclaimed waste as fertilizer.
