Overview

Kabru is a Tallman adventurer and party leader in the manga and anime series Dungeon Meshi by Ryoko Kui. Fueled by a past tragedy in which his hometown was destroyed by a dungeon outbreak, he aims to conquer the dungeon to prevent further disaster. In contrast to Laios Touden, who is obsessed with monsters, Kabru possesses exceptional social acumen and human observation skills, making him a sharp narrative foil to the series' main protagonist.

Appearance

Kabru is a young dark-skinned male featuring short, curly black hair, thick eyebrows, and blue eyes. His attire combines leather armor and chainmail, worn over a long-sleeved shirt and jacket, completed with short boots and black gloves. He also wears jewelry including rings, earrings, an earclip, and clothing adorned with gold trim and embroidery.

Personality

Kabru is an outgoing, intelligent, and highly charismatic individual who easily builds rapport with others, sometimes employing deception to gain their trust. Despite his friendly demeanor and deep care for his teammates, he hides a pragmatic, cold side, willing to take extreme measures against those who profit off harming others. Driven by trauma, he harbors an intense hatred for monsters and functions as a long-suffering straight man when dealing with eccentric figures like Laios and Mithrun.

Abilities

Kabru excels at human-targeted combat and interpersonal negotiation, possessing a keen understanding of human anatomy and weak points. He is skilled in wielding weapons such as longswords, daggers, and spears, and can cast basic magic including lighting, healing, and water-walking spells. However, due to his lack of adventuring experience and limited knowledge of monsters, his combat tactics often fail against dungeon creatures.

Background

Born in Utaya on the Western Continent, Kabru survived a catastrophic dungeon outbreak at age six that destroyed his hometown and claimed his mother's life. He was subsequently adopted and raised by Milsiril, a vice-captain of the Canary squad, who taught him martial arts and broad knowledge. After coming of age, he left to form his own party on the island to conquer the Golden Kingdom's dungeon. After learning the truth behind the dungeon's existence, he eventually becomes a close political advisor to King Laios.

Relationships

Kabru leads his party members—Rinsha, Holm, Daya, Mickbell, and Kuro—with deep attentiveness to their habits; he treats his childhood friend Rinsha like an elder sister, unaware or unacknowledging of her romantic feelings. Initially suspicious of Laios Touden, he later comes to trust him, ultimately serving as his right-hand political officer. He also forms a close bond with Captain Mithrun of the Canaries, acting as his caretaker while exploring the deeper levels of the dungeon, and maintains a complex respect for his adoptive mother, Milsiril.

Trivia

Kabru loves tomatoes, while disliking both monsters and elven cakes. A recurring joke in the series involves Laios constantly mispronouncing Kabru's name. His intellect and anti-human combat skill set were cultivated entirely through the rigorous education of his adoptive elven mother. Additionally, his party holds the distinction of undergoing frequent total wipes at the hands of various dungeon creatures like treasure bugs and fey fish.
