Overview
Hien is a character from the manga and anime series Dungeon Meshi. She is a skilled female ninja serving the Nakamoto house of the Eastern Archipelago and acts as one of the dedicated retainers accompanying her master, Shuro, on his dungeon exploration party. Serving as both a combatant and a loyal bodyguard, she plays a vital role in navigating the subterranean environment. While maintaining a professional demeanor in her duty to the Nakamoto clan, she secretly harbors romantic feelings for Shuro, adding a personal dimension to her dedication.
Appearance
Hien has long black hair bound in a practical ponytail, paired with black eyes. A distinctive facial feature is a pair of small dot tattoos located directly under one of her eyes.
Personality
Hien is fundamentally disciplined, serious, and stoic, carrying out her duties as a ninja with high professionalism. Beneath this composed exterior, however, lies a deep devotion to her master, Shuro. Because her loyalty is intertwined with unrequited romantic affection, she can become easily flustered or emotionally reactive when Shuro is involved. Her feelings prompt a sharp sense of jealousy and hostility toward Falin Touden, revealing a emotional side behind her quiet facade.
Abilities
As an accomplished ninja in service to the Nakamoto house, Hien possesses advanced martial and covert abilities suited for subterranean exploration. She provides effective combat support and reconnaissance for Shuro's party, employing her training to navigate dangerous environments and protect her master against monsters.
Background
Hien originates from the Eastern Archipelago and was trained to serve the Nakamoto family. When the young master of the clan, Shuro, embarked on an expedition into the island dungeon, Hien was tasked with accompanying him alongside fellow retainers including Maizuru, Benichidori, and Inutade. Following the incident where Falin Touden was swallowed by the Red Dragon, Hien followed Shuro into the deeper levels of the labyrinth to assist in the search.
Relationships
Hien is completely dedicated to her master, Shuro (Toshiro Nakamoto), holding both unconditional loyalty and deep romantic affection for him. Her romantic feelings fuel a strong sense of rivalry and jealousy toward Falin Touden, the object of Shuro's interest. Within Shuro's exploration party, she maintains close working dynamics with her fellow retainers, including Maizuru, Benichidori, Inutade, and Izutsumi.
Trivia
Her name, Hien (written with characters meaning Flying Swallow), reflects her swift and agile nature as a ninja. As part of Shuro's Eastern retinue, her attire and cultural background contrast distinctly with the Western-style fantasy adventurers who dominate the dungeon setting.
