Overview

Shurou, whose true name is Nakamoto Toshirou, is a main supporting character in Delicious in Dungeon. Hailing from an archipelago in the Far East, this Tallman swordsman served as the frontline fighter in Laios Touden's dungeon exploration party. Following the tragic event where Falin Touden was swallowed by the Red Dragon, he departs from the group to initiate a separate rescue effort using his family's elite shinobi retinue. Quiet and reserved, Shurou frequently finds himself exasperated by Laios's unconventional social behavior while striving to fulfill his honorable intentions.

Appearance

Shurou is a Tallman with long, straight black hair worn in a ponytail and black eyes. He dons traditional Japanese armor—including shoulder guards and kusazuri skirts—over a green kimono with matching trousers and sandals, and carries a Japanese sword. During his hurried deep-dungeon traversal, his physical condition leaves him with sunken cheeks, stubble, and a disheveled appearance, though he regains his neat attire after proper rest and food.

Personality

Shurou possesses a calm, serious, and reserved demeanor, though his introverted nature makes it difficult for him to communicate his thoughts directly. He struggles with emotional expression, demonstrated by his sudden marriage proposal to Falin Touden upon falling in love at first sight. He suffers immense frustration due to Laios Touden's social obliviousness and awkward interactions, yet secretly envies Laios's ability to speak his mind without restraint.

Abilities

Having undergone rigorous martial training since childhood due to his noble background in espionage, Shurou is an exceptionally skilled swordsman. Within Laios Touden's party, he served as the primary frontline combatant, relied upon to deal decisive fatal strikes against formidable foes such as dragons. His refined techniques with a traditional Japanese sword make him significantly stronger than standard dungeon adventurers.

Background

Born as the eldest son of the Nakamoto family, a prominent clan specializing in intelligence work in the Far East, Shurou was dispatched by his father alongside his brothers to find something interesting to determine clan succession. During his journey, he encountered Laios Touden and unexpectedly ended up joining his exploration team. Following Falin Touden's capture by the Red Dragon, Shurou broke away to launch a hasty rescue mission alongside five ninja retainers led by Maizuru. After resolving his misunderstandings with Laios, he eventually returned home to succeed as the head of his house.

Relationships

Shurou holds romantic feelings for Falin Touden, having proposed to her shortly after meeting. His relationship with her brother, Laios Touden, is fraught with stress due to Laios's blunt nature, though their physical altercation eventually leads to mutual respect. Maizuru serves as his devoted retainers' leader and former tutor, accompanied by ninja vassals Hien, Benichidori, Inutade, and Asebi. Additionally, Kabru acts as a mediator when Shurou's conflict with Laios escalates inside the dungeon.

Trivia

The name Shurou originated when Shurou stumbled over his real name, Nakamoto Toshirou, during his initial meeting with Laios Touden, leading Laios to misunderstand it. He gave Laios a magical signaling bell for emergencies, but Laios carelessly tossed it into his pack, leaving it to chime constantly. Regarding his dietary preferences, Shurou enjoys soba noodles but dislikes cheese.
