Overview
Majikajya is a character from Made in Abyss who resides in the Hollow Village of Iruburu within the Sixth Layer of the Abyss. Distinct from most Hollows who possess organic forms, Majikajya takes the appearance of a mechanical vessel resembling a toy dragon. As one of the few villagers capable of speaking the surface world's common language, they act as an interpreter and guide for Riko and her companions. Majikajya's true form is a gaseous scent, requiring them to inhabit crafted containers or living creatures to interact with the physical environment.
Appearance
Majikajya's standard physical vessel resembles a dragon-like toy featuring a long neck similar to a plesiosaur, a rounded torso, five legs, and hands shaped like mechanical reachers, with jingling accessories worn around its neck. The high-speed "Fast Body" features elongated legs and an aerodynamically shaped head. Additionally, the massive "Strong Body" possesses a turtle-shell-like torso structured with seating space capable of carrying multiple passengers.
Personality
Compared to many Hollows who are driven purely by desire, Majikajya exhibits a highly rational, polite, and helpful demeanor. They speak the common surface language in a somewhat broken manner, refer to themselves in the third person, and frequently click their claws together. Although they share the typical Hollow fascination with "Value" and express a desire for human body parts, they strictly respect boundaries and yield if refused. Throughout their journey, Majikajya demonstrates deep loyalty and practical concern for Riko and her companions.
Abilities
Majikajya's true form is a gaseous scent, granting them the ability to inhabit and control crafted mechanical vessels or living creatures. Transferring into a new vessel requires a time-consuming integration process; forcefully controlling a body without completing this process results in Majikajya's death. They possess multiple specialized vessels, including a high-speed "Fast Body" powered by specialized fuel, and a massive "Strong Body" capable of transporting several individuals, which requires outside assistance to enter.
Background
Majikajya lived in the Hollow Village of Iruburu within the Sixth Layer. Upon the arrival of Riko and her team, Majikajya was the first villager to greet them, acting as their guide and teaching them about the village's unique economy based on "Value." When the creature Oogasumi invaded the settlement, Majikajya utilized a lock of Riko's hair as fuel to power the Fast Body, luring the beast into a trap. During the destruction of the village, Majikajya honored Faputa's command to protect Riko, using the Strong Body to transport survivors. As a final resort, Majikajya forcefully possessed Faputa's unconscious body without preparation, successfully rescuing everyone before dying from the strain.
Relationships
Majikajya forms a close bond with Riko, serving as her guide, protecting her from making dangerous bargains, and ultimately sacrificing their own life to ensure her safety. While assisting Nanachi, Majikajya inadvertently disclosed that Belaf held Mitty, leading to Nanachi surrendering to Belaf. Aware of the severe costs exacted by Belaf in past trades, Majikajya warned Riko against making similar deals. Majikajya holds high respect for Faputa, obeying her command to rescue Riko during the village's ruin, and also interacts with the Sage Wazukyan by transporting surviving villagers to his location.
Trivia
In the animated adaptation of the series, significant detail was put into the character's sound design, incorporating distinct audio elements for the mechanical driving sounds of the vessels, metallic footsteps, and the rhythmic clinking of the accessories worn around the neck. Furthermore, Majikajya functions as a key narrative vehicle at the start of the village arc, introducing the audience to the unique economic concept of "Value" and highlighting how radically the Hollows' perspective on human body parts differs from surface norms.
