Overview
Srajo is a character in Made in Abyss. Known by the title Srajo the Obscure, she is a female delver holding the highest rank of White Whistle. She serves as the captain of the delving fleet Hail Hex, a group composed largely of beast-faced individuals known as Juusou. Encountered by Riko and her companions in the Sixth Layer of the Abyss, she pursues the forbidden truths hidden within the pit.
Appearance
Initially recognized only by a silhouette clad in a plague doctor mask, hood, and black cape, Srajo is revealed to be an attractive woman. Her hair is uniquely shaped by the Abyss's curse of ascent, and her eyelashes and outer corners of her eyes feature star-like cross patterns. Her clothing leaves her upper torso extensively exposed beneath a fur cloak, and she carries numerous colorful whistles around her neck alongside her White Whistle. A small, animal-like beast-man named Flapam rests on her shoulder.
Personality
Srajo speaks in a vibrant, energetic masculine manner using the personal pronoun ore, often accompanied by peculiar greetings and sharp finger movements. Although she labels herself as cautious, she is fundamentally fearless and unconcerned with decorum, openly picking her nose in public. Unlike many other White Whistles, she treats children with equal respect and willingly shares valuable information and artifacts. However, she also exhibits a rebellious streak by harboring forbidden beast-faced crew members. She possesses a surprisingly sensitive ego regarding her poor cooking, becoming deeply crestfallen if her bad meals are pointed out.
Abilities
As a White Whistle, Srajo possesses elite delver skills and commands the Hail Hex fleet. She demonstrated her formidable combat power and leadership when she forcibly broke through Bondrewd's frontline base, leaving his Umbra Hands troops heavily damaged. Beyond physical might, she displays intellectual acuity, actively deciphering the forbidden original manuscript of the Hariyomari Collection and investigating the mysterious co-author known as the Miko to unravel the Abyss.
Background
For a long time, she was known only as the veiled figure Shinpi-kyou. While descending through the Abyss, she clashed with Bondrewd at his frontline base, violently breaking through his defenses before reaching the Sixth Layer. During the incident, she acquired high-value relics, including a luxurious bath basin, which she set up at her own deep-layer hideout. In the Sixth Layer, while researching the prohibited Hariyomari Collection, she ultimately encountered Riko's party during their descent.
Relationships
She is hostile toward fellow White Whistle Bondrewd following their conflict at the frontline base, calling him Blockhead Mask and taking his luxury relics. When meeting Riko's team, she interacts with them as equals and generously shares resources, though Nanachi remains wary due to her past encounters with Bondrewd. Srajo is deeply respected by her beast-faced crew in Hail Hex, who out of kindness refrain from telling her how terrible her cooking tastes.
Trivia
Prior to her official facial reveal, many readers presumed from her plague doctor mask and title that she would be a deceitful male character, spawning fan speculations known as Air Srajo. Additionally, the massive relic bath basin called the wrinkle pot in her fleet's base is so exceptionally rare that it does not appear in standard delver guidebooks, carrying an estimated worth of over 15 million Orth.
