Reg is one of the main protagonists of Made in Abyss. Discovered in a deactivated state within the Abyss by Riko, an apprentice Cave Raider, he is a robot boy who lost his memories, forgetting both his origin and the fact that he is a machine. Riko named him after a dog she used to own. Because his body is entirely immune to the Curse of the Abyss, he accompanies Riko on a dangerous descent toward the bottom of the pit to uncover his lost past and true identity. Due to his extraordinarily advanced capabilities, he is considered a rare artifact known as a Treasure of the Deep.

Appearance
Reg resembles a young boy with dark skin, short brown hair, golden eyes, and slightly pointed ears, featuring reddish-brown square markings on his cheeks and torso. His metallic limbs consist of silver bellows-like joints and cylindrical forearms and shins in a dark iron color, with round lens-shaped components on his palms and soles. He wears a helmet equipped with short horns and a display lens, a large metal collar with a red cape over his bare chest, and loose pants with distinct patterns. When awakened by Riko's White Whistle, his metallic parts turn white, his skin darkens, and glowing crack-like patterns appear on his helmet display.
Personality
Despite his overwhelming physical strength, Reg is emotionally delicate, timid, and easily moved to tears, trembling with fear at the mere mention of ghosts. He is innocent, earnest, and somewhat gullible, often leading others to take advantage of his naive nature. He frequently uses the catchphrase "Doshigatai" (irredeemable) when confronted with absurd behavior or strange phenomena. He also has a distinct weakness for soft, fluffy textures, showing a persistent desire to pet and cuddle his companion Nanachi. Shy and easily flustered by sensitive topics, he brings a grounded, relatable perspective to the group.
Abilities
Reg possesses immense strength, high agility, and enhanced senses. His arms can instantly extend up to 40 meters on thick internal wires, acting like whips or climbing cables, and remain controllable even if severed. His most powerful weapon is the Incinerator, a beam fired from the lenses on his palms and soles that completely disintegrates anything in its path, bypassing conventional durability and regeneration. However, firing it forces him into an inevitable two-hour coma starting ten minutes after use. While his energy can be replenished through electricity or food, overcharging can cause him to lose control. Awakening via a White Whistle significantly amplifies his powers.
Background
After being found unconscious in the upper layers of the Abyss by Riko, Reg was brought to an orphanage where he briefly lived a quiet life. He had no memory of his past upon waking, though subtle habits and speech patterns suggest he spent a significant amount of time with the White Whistle delver Lyza. Additionally, he shares a forgotten past and a promise with Faputa, the Princess of the Hollows in the sixth layer. Upon learning that clues to his origin lie deep within the Abyss, he departs alongside Riko on a perilous expedition to the bottom.
Relationships
Reg shares a profound bond with Riko, who rescued him, and pledges his strength to protect her throughout their journey. He places immense trust in Nanachi, though he frequently exasperates them with his obsessed affection for their soft fur. He holds deep roots with Riko's mother, Lyza, whose mannerisms heavily influenced him during their time together in the past. He also maintains a mysterious, emotionally charged connection with Faputa, with whom he made a vital promise prior to losing his memories.

The name Reg was given to him by Riko, who named him after a pet dog she used to own. Despite being a synthetic mechanical construct, his body paradoxically incorporates numerous organic human functions, including the ability to sweat, shed tears, feel pain, experience hunger, and process food through a fully functioning digestive system.
