Background

In the year 845, when the Colossal Titan breached the wall of Shiganshina, flying debris struck her house, trapping her beneath the heavy structural ruins. Realizing the immediate danger as Titans approached, she lied to Eren and Mikasa that her legs were crushed so they would relinquish their attempt to free her. She entrusted them to Hannes, who carried the children away. Moments later, she was devoured by a Titan in front of Eren, a tragic event that forged his absolute determination to eradicate all Titans.
