Nifa

Overview

Nifa is a supporting character in the manga and anime series Attack on Titan. She serves as a female soldier within the Scout Regiment's Fourth Squad, which is commanded by Hange Zoë. Reliable and versatile, she frequently assists higher-ranking officers by handling communications between squads, recording vital intel during confidential strategy sessions, and aiding in emergency evacuations.

Appearance

Nifa has a small frame, standing 165 cm tall and weighing 58 kg. She initially wears her hair in a short bob that reaches down over her ears, though her hair later transitions into a medium-length style with hime-cut sideburns. In the animated adaptation, her hair is depicted as reddish-chestnut and her eyes are yellow (gold). She wears standard military gear equipped with Vertical Maneuvering Equipment.

Personality

Nifa is a dutiful and dependable soldier who carries out orders with composure. On the battlefield, she prioritizes the safety of her comrades, staying level-headed enough to guide others away from danger during chaotic encounters. While generally composed, she can be genuinely perplexed when faced with confusing requests from fellow soldiers in high-stress situations.

Abilities

Nifa possesses strong maneuverability using Vertical Maneuvering Equipment, demonstrated when she scooped up Historia—who was unequipped with maneuvering gear at the time—and leaped off Wall Rose to evade a direct strike from the Colossal Titan. She also has sharp clerical and communication skills, accurately summarizing high-level strategic conversations on paper and riding horseback between locations to deliver battlefield intelligence.

Background

Originating from Wall Rose, Nifa joined the Scout Regiment and was assigned to Hange Zoë's squad. She participated in the relief effort at Utgard Castle and later assisted in protecting and evacuating Historia and Connie during the sudden appearance of the Colossal and Armored Titans on Wall Rose. During the Uprising arc, she acted as a scribe and courier, recording meetings between Erwin Smith and Dot Pyxis and delivering orders to Levi's squad. While monitoring a hearse transport from a rooftop alongside Captain Levi, she was ambushed and fatally shot in the head by Kenny Ackerman of the Anti-Personnel Control Squad.

Relationships

Nifa serves directly under Hange Zoë, assisting her squad leader on various operations. She also works alongside Levi Ackerman, assisting him during reconnaissance and surveillance missions. During battles, she acts as a protective senior soldier to younger corps members such as Historia Reiss and Connie Springer, ensuring their safe evacuation from dangerous combat zones.

Trivia

Before her official name was revealed in Chapter 56 of the manga, fans frequently referred to her by nicknames such as 'black-haired Armin' due to her hairstyle. Series creator Hajime Isayama mentioned in a Q&A that characters within the story also notice her strong physical resemblance to Armin Arlert, and that both characters are mutually aware of it.
