Despite her casual and mocking exterior, she possesses a deeply compassionate nature and demonstrates strong moral integrity when confronted with crisis.

Appearance

Hitch Dreyse is a female soldier characterized by short wavy hair depicted in shades ranging from grey to ash brown or blonde, paired with green, brown, or blue eyes. Her standard attire consists of the military uniform of Paradis Island, featuring the green jacket of the Military Police Brigade. She carries military weapons including blades and firearms associated with her combat gear.

Personality

On the surface, Hitch presents a playful, sarcastic, and lazy demeanor, often teasing her peers for their earnest ideals. However, beneath this careless front lies an honest, empathetic, and loyal soldier. She reacts strongly against injustice and civilian casualties caused by military operations. Unswayed by fanatical nationalism, she maintains a critical distance from mob mentality and aggressive militaristic slogans, displaying genuine concern for the safety and well-being of those around her.

Abilities

Having completed the 104th Training Corps curriculum, Hitch possesses proficient military skills in handling blades and firearms. In high-stakes situations, she exhibits sharp combat intuition, physically intervening to turn the tide. She is capable of close-quarters hand-to-hand engagement, as seen when grappling with an unsealed Titan shifter. Additionally, following the collapse of the walls, she demonstrated field leadership by taking command of remaining military personnel in the Trost District to direct rescue efforts and maintain civil order.

Background

Joining the Military Police in year 850, Hitch was stationed in Stohess District and shared quarters with Annie Leonhart. After witnessing the destruction caused by the Female Titan operation, she was tasked during the Uprising arc with tracking the Survey Corps alongside Marlo Freudenberg. Upon being captured by Levi's squad, she discovered the government's cover-up and Annie's identity as a Titan shifter, choosing to aid the rebels instead. She tried in vain to stop Marlo from joining the Survey Corps before his death in Shiganshina. For the next four years, she guarded Annie's crystallized form and eventually helped her escape when the crystal shattered during the Rumbling.

Relationships

Hitch shared a room with Annie Leonhart in the Military Police. Recognizing Annie's hidden desire for connection beneath her cold exterior, Hitch maintained a complex bond with her, being shattered by the reveal of Annie's identity yet later facilitating her escape. She was paired with Marlo Freudenberg, initially mocking his strict morality but gradually coming to respect and harbor deep affection for his unyielding resolve. She tried desperately to prevent him from transferring to the Survey Corps and was deeply grieved by his demise.

Trivia

During the rise of the Yaegerists, Hitch is depicted insincerely going through the motions of chanting military slogans alongside the fanatical crowd, even yawning to express her subtle disdain for their extremism. Furthermore, throughout the four-year period following the battle of Stohess, she kept Annie Leonhart's left-behind belongings intact within their shared quarters rather than clearing out the room.
