Background

Fearing that Porco would inherit a Titan power and suffer a shortened lifespan, Marcel deliberately undermined his brother's evaluations, causing Reiner Braun to be chosen for the Armored Titan instead. After inheriting the Jaw Titan, Marcel was selected to lead the Paradis Island operation alongside Reiner, Bertholdt Hoover, and Annie Leonhart. Immediately afterward, when a buried Pure Titan ambushed the group, Marcel pushed Reiner out of harm's way, saving his friend at the cost of his own life.
