Overview
Zeke Yeager is a major character in Attack on Titan. Serving as the Warchief of the Marleyan Warrior Unit, he is the power-holder of the Beast Titan. He is the elder half-brother of Eren Yeager and possesses royal Eldian lineage through his mother. Operating as a lead antagonist against the inhabitants of the walls, he combines cold tactical intellect with unique Titan abilities to control the battlefield.
Appearance
Zeke is a tall man with blonde hair (depicted as brownish-gray in colored manga pages), blue eyes, a full beard, and distinct round glasses featuring a flip-up frame mechanism. He wears an armband along with a shirt. As a young boy, he had no beard or glasses. In his Beast Titan form, he appears as a 17-meter-tall ape-like figure covered in fur, characterized by unnaturally long arms.
Personality
Zeke maintains a detached, casually humorous demeanor on the surface, often using baseball terminology to describe deadly combat situations. Beneath this playful exterior lies a calculating and ruthless mind, willing to sacrifice countesses lives for his strategic goals. He harbors deep resentment toward his biological father, which fuels a protective yet dogmatic fixation on his younger half-brother, Eren, whom he views as a victim needing salvation.
Abilities
Zeke utilizes his Titan's elongated arms to crush and hurl boulders with lethal precision, delivering high-impact long-range attacks akin to baseball pitches. Due to his royal heritage, he can transform Eldians who have ingested or inhaled his spinal fluid into Pure Titans via a vocal roar, allowing him to command them even at night. Inhaling his vaporized spinal fluid causes immediate paralysis. Outside his Titan form, he is also adept at maneuvering with Omni-Directional Mobility Gear.
Background
Born in the Liberio internment zone to Grisha Yeager and Dina Fritz, Zeke was raised by his parents to be a spy for the Eldian Restorationists. Struggling under their immense pressure, he befriended Tom Ksaver, the previous Beast Titan. When the Restorationists were threatened with exposure, seven-year-old Zeke reported his parents to Marley to save his grandparents and himself. Earning the title 'Wonder Child,' he inherited the Beast Titan and later orchestrated a secret agenda under the guise of serving Marley.
Relationships
He is the son of Grisha Yeager and Dina Fritz, making him the older half-brother of Eren Yeager. He views his mentor, Tom Ksaver, as a true father figure and wears his glasses in remembrance. As Warchief, he commanded Reiner Braun, Bertholdt Hoover, and Annie Leonhart. He shares a deadly, persistent enmity with Levi Ackerman, who severely defeated him in battle. He also commands the Anti-Marleyan Volunteers alongside Yelena.
Trivia
The visual and character design of Zeke was inspired by media critic Tomohiro Machiyama. His signature eyewear is based on vintage flip-up spectacles. He frequently incorporates baseball analogies and terminology into his speech during tactical engagements.
