Overview

A prominent character in Attack on Titan, Grisha Yeager is the father of Eren Yeager and Zeke Yeager. Operating as a highly respected physician in the Shiganshina District within the walls, he gained widespread admiration from the populace for saving the town from a deadly plague. Beneath his peaceful facade, however, lies a covert origin from the nation of Marley outside the walls, making him a central figure whose choices initiate the unraveling of the world's secrets.

Appearance

Grisha features brown hair, round glasses, and facial hair including a mustache and goatee. His standard attire includes long-sleeved clothing paired with an ascot tie and a hat, while he wore an armband during his past in the internment zone outside the walls. He wears the key to his basement on a string around his neck. In his Titan form, he displays an exceptionally muscular physique with significantly greater muscle mass than other Attack Titan inheritors.

Personality

Inherently thoughtful and guided by a strong sense of medical ethics, Grisha was adventurous and curious in his youth. The tragic loss of his younger sister sparked a deep-seated resentment toward oppression and an unyielding desire for freedom. Although his past ideological passion caused him to push his first son to an unbearable limit, his second life within the walls was marked by deep regret, leading him to act as a gentle, caring father and community member.

Abilities

Equipped with medical knowledge surpassing the walls' capabilities, Grisha successfully contained a major epidemic in Shiganshina. He demonstrated exceptional intelligence and espionage skills by locating the hidden underground chapel of the Reiss family. As the wielder of the Attack Titan, he possesses the ability to perceive memories of future successors. In combat, his Titan form wields extraordinary striking power derived from immense muscle mass, enabling him to overpower opponents like Frida Reiss's Founding Titan, alongside high endurance that allowed him to travel across the island alone.

Background

Born into a doctor's family in the Liberio Internment Zone in Marley, Grisha grew resentful of the government after his younger sister Faye Yeager was killed by authorities during an unauthorized outing. As an adult, he joined the Eldian Restorationists, marrying Dina Fritz and fathering Zeke Yeager. After Zeke reported the group to the military, Grisha was exiled to Paradis Island. Saved by Eren Kruger at the border wall, he inherited the Attack Titan, entered the walls, was sheltered by Keith Shadis, and eventually married Carla Yeager, with whom he had Eren Yeager.

Relationships

Grisha passed the basement key and Titan powers to his son Eren Yeager. He subjected his eldest son Zeke Yeager to rigorous indoctrination, leading to Zeke's betrayal, though Grisha later expressed profound remorse and love for him. He built a quiet domestic life with his second wife Carla Yeager, while sharing his early political cause with his first wife Dina Fritz. The death of his sister Faye Yeager formed the turning point of his life. He adopted Mikasa Ackerman after her parents died, received his Titan ability from Eren Kruger, and was aided by Keith Shadis upon entering the walls.

Trivia

Grisha was known by the moniker 'Man of Miracles' among certain groups outside the walls. The three memoirs and hidden portrait he left in his household basement served as the catalyst that introduced the people inside the walls to photographs and revealed the true state of the outside world.
