Overview

The Eternity Devil is a character in Chainsaw Man who embodies the fear of eternity. Serving as an antagonist in both Part 1 and Part 2 of the series, it retains memories from its life prior to reincarnating on Earth and relentlessly seeks the heart of the Chainsaw Devil.

Appearance

In Part 1, its body appears as an expanding mass of human flesh containing innumerable faces and mouths. Following its reincarnation in Part 2, its physical form changes dramatically into a faceless giant composed of countless arms.

Personality

Highly cautious and calculating, the Eternity Devil avoids direct combat with Denji due to its awareness of the Chainsaw Devil's power. It exhibits a sadistic temperament, preferring to trap human Devil Hunters and psychologically break them to extract favorable contracts. Despite its tormenting nature, it has a low tolerance for intense physical pain, breaking down under torture until it begs for release. In Part 2, it displays a somewhat humorous side when flustered by unpredictable human behavior.

Abilities

It possesses the ability to inhabit buildings, distorting internal space and halting time to create an inescapable pocket dimension corresponding to its stomach. Within this domain, it grows stronger and expands by absorbing the fear of trapped humans. As long as its heart remains intact, it can regenerate and duplicate endlessly without needing to consume blood. In Part 1, this regenerative power was heavily amplified by incorporating a piece of the Gun Devil's flesh.

Background

Bearing memories of its past battle with the Chainsaw Devil, it enhanced itself with a fragment of the Gun Devil in Part 1 and trapped members of Public Safety Special Division 4 on the 8th floor of a hotel. It demanded Denji's surrender, but after enduring three consecutive days of relentless agony inflicted by Denji, it yielded its heart to end the pain. After reincarnating from Hell in Part 2, it collaborated with the Famine Devil to trap Denji and Asa Mitaka in an aquarium, but was flushed out when Asa weaponized the facility and was subsequently eliminated.

Relationships

It targeted Denji (Chainsaw Man) for his heart due to past grudges, only to be overwhelmed by his endurance of pain. It psychologically tormented members of Public Safety Special Division 4, including Aki Hayakawa, Himeno, Power, Kobeni Higashiyama, and Hirokazu Arai. In Part 2, it partnered with Fami (the Famine Devil), was bewildered by Asa Mitaka's actions, and was ultimately destroyed through the actions of Hirofumi Yoshida's Octopus Devil and Yoru.

Trivia

In the anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man, the Eternity Devil received prominent artistic treatment in the ending sequences of episodes 5 and 6, highlighting its spatial anomaly within the hotel. Denji's reference to creating a perpetual motion machine during their fight became a memorable phrase associated with this encounter.
