Overview
A prominent character appearing in Part 2 of Chainsaw Man. Initially presenting herself as the Famine Devil and the elder sister of Yoru, the War Devil, she belongs to the Student Council and Devil Hunter Club at Fourth East High School. In truth, she is the Death Devil—one of the Four Horsemen—who borrowed the real Famine Devil's identity to operate behind the scenes. Driven by a deep personal fondness for human cuisine such as pizza and Chinese food, she works to avert the apocalypse foretold by Nostradamus in order to preserve the culinary pleasures of the human realm.
Appearance
Appearing as a high school girl, she wears the uniform of Fourth East High School alongside the cap of the Devil Hunter Club. She has short white hair, distinctive concentric ringed red eyes, and several moles on her face. Long earrings shaped like Chainsaw Man's chest starter ripcord hang from both ears. She maintains an expressionless demeanor and is characterized by a habit of keeping her neck tilted constantly toward the right.
Personality
Despite encouraging others to address her familiarly as Fami (or Kiga-chan), she maintains an unreadable, flat demeanor with almost no visible emotion. She exhibits an insatiable appetite, routinely consuming enormous quantities of food at cafes on someone else's tab or casually devouring an entire loaf of bread and a jar of jam in another person's home. Her primary motivation to save humanity stems from her intense love for dishes like pizza and Chinese food. Beneath her calm demeanor lies a cold, pragmatic mindset, willingly manipulating both humans and devils as pawns to achieve her objectives.
Abilities
While operating under the alias of the Famine Devil, she demonstrated the capacity to turn famished biological entities into her controllable pawns. She possesses the authority to summon and command formidable entities, including the Eternal Devil and the Primal Fear known as the Falling Devil, through sheer power dynamics rather than explicit contracts, and can revive near-death individuals like Yuko. Her true power as the Death Devil allows her to absorb the life force of others, granting her complete regeneration even if her internal organs are removed or her body is sliced into pieces.
Background
First surfacing as a member of the Devil Hunter Club at Fourth East High School, she secretly intervened in human events. After reviving Yuko, she confronted Asa Mitaka and used the Eternal Devil to trap Asa and Denji inside an aquarium to force Denji's weaponization, a plan thwarted by Asa's ingenuity. She later summoned the Falling Devil to Earth to force Asa and Yoru into starvation inside a devil's stomach, though Nayuta intervened to disrupt the plot. She subsequently established the Chainsaw Man Church, placing Haruka Iseumi as its public figurehead. Ultimately, during a confrontation involving the genuine Famine Devil, her true identity as the Death Devil was revealed.
Relationships
She is part of the Four Horsemen alongside her sisters Yoru (the War Devil) and Nayuta (the Control Devil); Yoru initially failed to recognize her, while Nayuta rejected her offer of cooperation due to school commitments. She views Asa Mitaka and Denji as key instruments for her goals, orchestrating traps to empower Yoru. She appointed Haruka Iseumi as the public representative of the Chainsaw Man Church and met Hirofumi Yoshida at a cafe, consuming vast amounts of food while dropping hints about upcoming catastrophes. Additionally, she borrowed the name and identity of the true Famine Devil.
Trivia
Her initially assumed title is derived from the Third Horseman of the Apocalypse riding a black horse, representing Famine. Fans have noted that the Japanese kanji name for penguin—the creature Denji was eager to see during their aquarium encounter—is written as kiga (企鵝), which served as clever foreshadowing for her appearance and alias.
