Overview
The Fox Devil, also known by the vocal command "Kon," is a featured devil in the manga series Chainsaw Man. Residing in Kyoto, this entity operates under the oversight of Public Safety and contracts exclusively with human devil hunters within Japan. As the very first contract devil introduced in the story, the Fox Devil plays a prominent supporting role during early operational missions, delivering swift and powerful strikes on behalf of various Devil Hunters in exchange for minimal physical sacrifices.
Appearance
The Fox Devil appears as a colossal monster fox with an estimated length exceeding ten meters. Its head and face are covered with numerous asymmetrical eyes of varying sizes. Depending on which part is summoned by a contractor, it manifests either its massive front legs equipped with sharp claws or its gigantic head featuring a lethal biting maw.
Personality
The Fox Devil is a female entity who maintains a cooperative yet capricious and temperamental disposition toward humans. She is notoriously superficial, granting the use of her devastating head exclusively to physically attractive men while restricting average-looking contractors to her front paws. Extremely moody, she will unhesitatingly abandon her duties or refuse future summons if an encounter displeases her. Furthermore, she harbors a strong aversion to swallowing hybrid beings, promptly deserting her partners after experiencing their foul taste.
Abilities
Contractors invoke the Fox Devil by making specific single-handed signs representing either a fox head or a front paw while uttering the command word "Kon." Summoning the head delivers an ultra-fast bite that kills targets instantly, while summoning a front paw delivers a powerful crushing blow. Each invocation grants only one strike before the body part disappears, leaving a momentary vulnerability if the attack is evaded or blocked. The contract requires feeding the devil a piece of skin or hair per use, offering great cost-efficiency relative to its high destructive output.
Background
Stationed in Kyoto, the Fox Devil is managed by Public Safety to assist Japanese Devil Hunters. She initially appeared as Aki Hayakawa's contract devil, effortlessly devouring the Leech Devil. However, during a subsequent battle against Katana Man, she swallowed the hybrid target only to suffer mouth injuries and a repulsive taste, leading her to permanently ignore Aki's summons. She was later summoned by other hunters including Hirokazu Arai and Nakamura, but continued to face difficulty—fleeing battle against Reze due to her bad flavor and struggling against enemies during the international assassins conflict.
Relationships
Aki Hayakawa was initially permitted to use the Fox Devil's head due to his attractive features, though she cut ties with him after biting Katana Man. Himeno famously pointed out the devil's shallow standard for looks. Other Public Safety officers, such as Hirokazu Arai, Nakamura, and Nomo, were limited to her front paws due to their plain appearances, whereas handsome officers like the Division 2 Vice Captain enjoyed head summons. Furthermore, she harbors deep disgust toward hybrid beings like Katana Man and Reze, refusing to continue fights against them.
Trivia
The single-handed fox hand gesture paired with the spoken cue "Kon" is one of the most recognizable elements of Chainsaw Man. Being the first contracted devil shown in the series, her low contract cost made her a ideal choice for supporting Devil Hunters. However, as the series progressed and introduced enemies beyond the reach of standard devil abilities, her combat effectiveness was frequently undermined.
