Himeno

Overview

Himeno is a veteran Public Safety Devil Hunter belonging to Special Division 4 in Chainsaw Man. Serving as a senior partner to Aki Hayakawa, she is an experienced hunter who balances a relaxed, teasing demeanor with professional composure. Known for her love of alcohol and cigarettes, she plays a central role in guiding newer recruits through high-risk assignments.

Appearance

Himeno is defined by her medium-length black hair and a distinctive black eyepatch covering her right eye. She wears the standard Public Safety suit along with dark footwear. The eyepatch conceals the loss of her right eye, which she sacrificed as part of a devil contract.

Personality

Himeno presents a relaxed, flirty, and playful front, taking particular amusement in teasing younger male colleagues. She is a heavy drinker whose personality turns volatile and excessively physical when intoxicated. Beneath her lighthearted surface, however, lies a deeply caring nature; she regularly visits the graves of her deceased former partners and shows a responsible, protective side toward younger hunters.

Abilities

Himeno holds a contract with the Ghost Devil, having traded her right eye for the ability to manifest an immensely strong, physically unblockable, invisible arm to restrain or attack targets from a distance. Alongside her contract powers, she possesses highly refined physical hand-to-hand combat skills and keen situational awareness. Under extreme circumstances, she can offer her entire body to fully summon the Ghost Devil's true form.

Background

Hailing from Aomori Prefecture, Himeno built a long career as a Public Safety Devil Hunter, surviving the deaths of five previous partners before being assigned her sixth, Aki Hayakawa. She introduced Aki to smoking and formed a close bond with him, constantly worrying about his survival. After Denji and other rookies joined the division, she provided guidance and tactical support while enduring the relentless hazards of their profession.

Relationships

She shares a deep emotional bond with her sixth partner, Aki Hayakawa, and frequently tries to convince him to quit the hazardous job. Kishibe served as her mentor, shaping her worldview despite his criticisms of her sentimentality. Though initially dismissive of Denji, she comes to respect his chaos in battle and forms a secret pact with him to assist each other's romantic goals. She also mentored junior hunters Kobeni Higashiyama and Hirokazu Arai, while secretly harbouring suspicion toward Makima.

Trivia

In the manga, she smokes MEVIUS Lights (8mg), which was altered to a fictional brand called WILDRAVEN in the anime adaptation to better fit the story's 1997 setting. Early concept plans by the author originally envisioned her as Denji's partner or as Aki's younger sister before settling on her final role.
