Overview
Tendou Michiko is a supporting character in the manga series Chainsaw Man. She is a female Public Safety Devil Hunter belonging to the Kyoto division, where she operates alongside her partner, Yuutarou Kurose. Speaking in a Kansai dialect, she is brought into the story when summoned to assist and guide Public Safety officers stationed in Tokyo under Makima's instructions.
Appearance
She is a tall woman standing 175 cm in height. She has black hair tied in a messy ponytail with long side bangs extending past her shoulders, alongside light-colored eyes. Her most striking physical feature is a prominent horizontal scar running across her nose and right cheek. She wears the standard Public Safety uniform consisting of a black jacket, a collared white shirt, and a necktie.
Personality
Compared to her partner Yuutarou Kurose, Michiko has a more serious and composed temperament, often checking him when he acts too lighthearted. She is also a cigarette smoker. When assigned to assist Aki Hayakawa, she maintains a somewhat detached demeanor, showing little emotional involvement in his personal motivations or struggles.
Abilities
As a Public Safety Devil Hunter, she holds a contract with the Punishment Devil, a trait she shares with her partner Yuutarou Kurose. However, the exact terms, cost of the contract, and specific nature of the abilities it grants remain unspecified in the text.
Background
Based in Kyoto's Public Safety division, Michiko and her partner were assigned to meet Makima upon her arrival in Kyoto. After Makima survived an ambush aboard the train, Michiko helped arrange a high-altitude shrine and condemned criminals to allow Makima to execute her long-range attacks. She later traveled to Tokyo to guide Aki Hayakawa, whose previous contract had been severed, leading him to form a new contract with the Future Devil. During a subsequent assignment to reinforce Tokyo during an international plot against Denji, the vehicle she was traveling in with Kurose and Subaru was disabled by a trap set by the American assassin brothers, resulting in her death.
Relationships
Michiko is partnered with Yuutarou Kurose in the Kyoto division, with whom she shares matching facial scars and a contract with the Punishment Devil. Makima refers to her by a familiar nickname and issues her operational directives. She interacts with Aki Hayakawa by facilitating his introduction to the Future Devil after his contract with the Fox Devil was terminated. Following her death at the hands of the American assassin brothers, one of the brothers, Joey, remarked favorably on her appearance.
Trivia
In official character popularity polls for the series, Michiko placed 30th in both the first and second voting events.
