Appearance
He has blue eyes and facial features inherited from his father. In his everyday life, he appears unkempt with messy bedhead hair, stubble, round glasses, and a tracksuit. However, during official shogi matches, he grooms himself neatly and wears traditional Japanese clothing.
Personality
Despite being viewed as childish by those close to him, Shuukichi is a gentle and warm-hearted individual with a strong sense of justice. He is exceptionally devoted to his girlfriend, Miyamoto Yumi, often becoming easily distracted or overly emotional depending on her actions. However, as a competitor, he adheres strictly to his personal motto of unwavering determination, displaying immense drive when aiming for his goals.
Abilities
Shuukichi possesses extraordinarily high intellect, razor-sharp insight, and a near-photographic memory that he considers to be among the best in the world. He can instantly memorize complex spatial information, such as surrounding maps, allowing him to precisely predict movement patterns and escape routes. Conversely, unlike his combat-trained family members, his physical strength and martial capabilities are notably low.
Background
Born as the second son of the Akai family under the name Akai Shuukichi, he left the United Kingdom for Japan seventeen years ago to escape impending danger. Through his high school years, he used the surname Sera and demonstrated acute analytical skills by solving incidents among his peers. After graduating, he was adopted by the wealthy Haneda family to carry on the legacy of their late son, shogi prodigy Haneda Kouji, subsequently taking the name Haneda Shuukichi. He achieved absolute dominance in shogi by conquering all seven major titles. Having previously given a marriage application to Miyamoto Yumi before their temporary separation, the two later reunited and began living together.
Relationships
He is in a romantic relationship with Miyamoto Yumi, affectionately using nicknames for each other. He maintains confidential contact with his older brother, Akai Shuuichi, via a dedicated smartphone and is aware that he is alive. His younger sister, Sera Masumi, calls him Kichi-nii and occasionally seeks his advice on deductions. He is also connected to his mother Mary Sera, his late adoptive brother Haneda Kouji, and his adoptive parents Haneda Yasuharu and Haneda Hanayo. He recognized Edogawa Conan's extraordinary intellect upon their first meeting and places great trust in him.
Trivia
His name and nickname, Taiko Meijin, derive from the historical figure Hashiba Hideyoshi. His character design and career accomplishments are modeled after real-life professional shogi legend Habu Yoshiharu, the first player in history to hold seven major titles simultaneously. Additionally, the folding fan he carries featuring the calligraphy for his personal motto originates from an actual fan written by professional player Watanabe Akira.
