Kojima Genta

Overview

Kojima Genta is a character from Detective Conan. A student in Class 1-B at Teitan Elementary School, he is the self-proclaimed leader of the Detective Boys. Alongside his classmates Edogawa Conan, Yoshida Ayumi, Tsuburaya Mitsuhiko, and Haibara Ai, he frequently finds himself involved in investigating and solving various mysteries. Known for his unusually large physique and enormous appetite, he acts as the group's energetic and strong-willed mood-maker.

Appearance

Genta has very short black hair and thick eyebrows. For a first-grade elementary school student, he possesses an unusually large, overweight build. His head is shaped like an onigiri, and he has a distinct 10-yen coin-sized bald spot on the left side of his scalp.

Personality

Genta is short-tempered and quick to show his feelings on his face. He speaks roughly and talks to adults without much hesitation, though he bears no ill intent. Possessing a massive appetite, he is utterly obsessed with eel rice and frequently references it in conversation. While he can be impulsive and oblivious to his surroundings, he is fundamentally kind, loyal, and driven by a fierce sense of justice when helping others. He holds romantic feelings toward his classmate Yoshida Ayumi.

Abilities

Genta boasts impressive physical strength for his age, relying on his large size to handle tough situations. However, due to his heavy build, his overall stamina and athletic capabilities are limited, leaving him quickly out of breath when running. Though he struggles academically and often misinterprets words, he occasionally demonstrates surprisingly sharp observations that catch adults off guard.

Background

Raised as the son of Kojima Genji, Genta shows a dutiful side by strictly adhering to the lessons taught by his family. After enrolling in Teitan Elementary School, he helped form the Detective Boys with his peers. Initially acting like a typical neighborhood bully, he gradually softened into a reliable partner as he shared numerous dangerous encounters and investigations alongside Conan and the others.

Relationships

Genta is close friends with his Detective Boys teammates Edogawa Conan, Yoshida Ayumi, Tsuburaya Mitsuhiko, and Haibara Ai, harbouring a crush on Ayumi. Kojima Genji is his father. At school, he is taught by Sumiko Kobayashi and Rumi Wakasa. He also regularly interacts with police officers such as Inspector Megure and Officer Takagi.

Trivia

His character concept was loosely influenced by the archetype of Gian (Takeshi Gouda) from Doraemon. His facial resemblance to Yoshimoto Shinkigeki comedian Yasushi Kawabata is a recognized running joke, which author Gosho Aoyama has personally acknowledged. In theatrical animated features, any impressive structure or vehicle he expresses open awe toward frequently ends up destroyed during the climax.
