Overview
Morofushi Hiromitsu, also known by his Black Organization codename Scotch, is a character from Detective Conan and its spin-off Wild Police Story. Originally an officer in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Public Security Bureau, he was sent undercover into the Black Organization alongside his childhood friend Furuya Rei. He is the younger brother of Nagano Prefectural Police Inspector Morofushi Taka'aki. Having died prior to the start of the main storyline after his identity as a spy was exposed, his legacy and tragic end heavily impact several major characters.
Appearance
Hiromitsu has short dark hair—variously rendered as black or brown—and blue eyes. He features thin stubble around his chin and mouth. His wardrobe includes clothing such as a blue hoodie, jackets, shirts, and long-sleeved black tops.
Personality
Hiromitsu is depicted as a kind-hearted, gentle, and highly principled individual with a strong sense of justice. Despite his warm demeanor, he carried deep emotional trauma stemming from witnessing the murder of his parents during his childhood, which occasionally left him paralyzed by flashbacks. He deeply valued his friends and family, ultimately choosing to sacrifice his own life to prevent sensitive information from falling into enemy hands and to protect those he cared about.
Abilities
Hiromitsu possessed high-level skills suitable for public security and undercover operations. During his time in the organization, he acted as a sniper and concealed his rifle inside a soft bass guitar bag. Beyond his combat capabilities, he was adept at playing the bass guitar and demonstrated impressive cooking skills, even offering to teach recipe techniques to Furuya.
Background
After his parents were killed in a tragic home invasion during his youth, Hiromitsu was sent to Tokyo to live with relatives, separating him from his older brother. During his youth, he formed strong friendships with Furuya Rei and Yamamura Misao. He later attended the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Academy, forming a close bond with five classmates in the Onizuka class. Upon joining the Public Security Bureau, he was dispatched to infiltrate the Black Organization. When his identity as a spy was compromised, he chose suicide on a rooftop to destroy his phone's data and protect his contacts.
Relationships
Furuya Rei is Hiromitsu's childhood best friend, with whom he shared nicknames 'Hiro' and 'Zero'. At the police academy, he maintained strong bonds with classmates Matsuda Jinpei, Hagiwara Kenji, and Date Wataru. He is the younger brother of Nagano Inspector Morofushi Taka'aki and was childhood playmates with Yamamura Misao. During his undercover work, FBI agent Akai Shuichi attempted to stop Hiromitsu from committing suicide; however, a fatal misinterpretation of incoming footsteps led to Hiromitsu pulling the trigger, sparking a bitter, long-standing conflict between Furuya and Akai. In a past encounter at a train station, Hiromitsu also gave a brief bass lesson to a young Sera Masumi.
Trivia
The name 'Hiromitsu' derives from his Japanese voice actor Midorikawa Hikaru and the character Heero Yuy, whom Midorikawa voiced in another iconic anime series. His damaged smartphone, featuring a distinctive 'H' scratch mark on the back along with bullet and blood stains, was eventually delivered to his brother Taka'aki, quietly informing him of Hiromitsu's fate.
